I am a bit confused. I thought the OP was asking whether her dog was tri colour or multi coloured. OP, just in case I did get it right, tri colour is a specific colouring not just a dog with 3 colours.:D
What is the specific colouring.

Wow, Neva is gorgeous. Is her body completely white? She looks so unusual but :001_tt1:
She's classed as a Colour Headed Tri recognized in North America but not in the UK. Although she appears completely white you can find black hairs mixed in and a couple of black and tan spots on her paws....Her mom was a CHW Sable and her Dad was White Factored but not white in colour

No, I am not asking my dogs are both tricolour which according to breed standard is ;
White, with any combination of lemon, orange, sable, grizzle or black markings. Tricolour.
More specifically they can be;
lemon and white
orange and white
sable and white
or tricolour of any of the above colours but must include white.
White is the base colour because it is easier to spot when hunting they have to have a large amount of white. It would be a rare dog with an exceptional standard in other areas that would do well with very little white.

I put forward my two as examples of tricolour in that breed but as other breeds have a different interpretation of tricolour I put multi colour for example the blue merlin tricolour has several shades many that are not seen in my breed, I also wanted to include pups who don't have a breed specification of tricolour.
So in my opinon any multi coloured dogs are welcome in this post :thumbsup:

The classic view, I believe, IS the black dog with tan on the pips and leg areas along with white . . .

. . . but when I speak to people - not into dogs - about a tricolor they just think of a three color dog. :)

Keep in mind that the a't'/a't' allele set that creates a black colored dog with pips is the same allele set that creates the saddle tan on many hounds. Modifiers allow those pips to creep out over the full head and farther up the legs in that case.

Other than that many dogs that are a'y' (sable) and all a'w' (wolf sable) dogs have two colors in their coat already - black and tan just in a different pattern. Add white (or take away color which is what happens genetically) and you get a three colored dog.

Here is a Tibbie that is staying at my house for a while. He is red sable (a'y'/a'y' + C/?) and parti (s'p'/s'p') and has a black mask (E'm'/?). I have run into a few people who call him a tricolor. LOL

(I really need to find out what the time limit is on bumping old threads! Hope this is okay, anyway!)
Myrddin's tri-coloured :) Most his brothers and sisters were just brown and white, he was the only one with mostly black and white! He also managed to change colours completely on his face! Lost his cute little pinky nose bits :(
