Hello everyone! I was just curious what the majority of us members think about the new forum and whether we think it is better than the old one? Please help out by taking part in this poll - it will close in one week so be speedy! Also, feel free to give reasoning to your vote in the reply section of this post. Thanks ;)

NB: I am not at all moaning about the new forum design or being ungrateful - Mark has gone a lot of effort to make this and I really do appreciate it. Thanks Mark!

Of course you do! I don't like this new one at all. I still haven't managed to get my signature photo back, we no longer get emails when someone reports a post, and it keeps telling me I can only have one link in my signature.

New! I like this version, much more modern looking! It's taking a bit of getting used to but it is such a huge change and I think we were well overdue a makeover. Some folks don't like change and you can't please everyone, but I really think this is a positive change, and once people get used to it, I think there'll be very few who would revert back to the old one! It's like when the 'like' system came in, lots of people (including myself) hated it, but now I wouldn't like to be without it!

Well done Mark - you've done an ace job!

The old one for me... :)

I'm sure the new one has good points once you get used to it.. But for me I like how simple and unchanging the old one was... It always felt like a great special place, one you kinda moved into and knew where you were with it to me anyway... Also the huge letters and the green on here seems bright, it gave me a bit of a headache. But then it's only the first day so time will tell I guess.

Ditto.

New style is much better, cleaner, easier in the main. Love the conversation interface, much better than the old PM which was a real nightmare with my pop up blocker.

People hate change but this is pretty easy to get used to I think but then I had an extra day as a tester so maybe that helped. I wonder how many will change their mind to preferring it by the end of the week?

got to give everything in life a chance ask me in a week
Same here. Im willing to give it a chance, although I do hate all the little Facebook/Twitter intrusions (those things get everywhere and bug the hell out of me).
TBF though Ive just attached a second monitor to play games and browse at the same time and have been fiddling with the resolution so things are abit wonky for me anyways!

I'm all for change and I look forward with great interest to all things new and improved. It's the only way forward.

This forum now appears brighter and breezier. Very similar to the effect a coat of new paint has on an old house.:)

Old...mostly due to this particular format not being user friendly..
This one looks messy, and I hate the look of it!

Not my forum, not my choice, but I'm not a fan...and no I won't "get used to it" because the lack of options for us as users is actually something that decides whether I stick around the forum or not.
I'm sure no one cares but to change to a format that works well (ish) on phones but doesn't offer the same for desktop users just pushes people out :(

It's obviously up to Mark what he does with his own forum, I just don't think this move was the best action to take lol

No option for 'Not fussed either way' so can't vote.

People seem to be complaining about the colour and the screen being hard to see because of this - I'm afraid I don't know what this problem is because I'm not having any issues with this. Maybe this is a tablet/mobile problem and I only use PC's for the forum.

My only gripe is - so far - is being unable to change how many posts to a page. On the old forum I had it set to the highest number (40 I think) and so now having to change pages after 10 is very annoying. I am hoping this is somethin Mark will be able to change. I know he is still working on his improvements.

Other than that - the differences are not great enough to merit moaning about in my opinion. :)

This is something I can and probably will change, but for reasons of reindexing the new website in the search engines, I have to leave it set to the default of 10 initially which is the same as the old forum. The settings on this new forum have to be forum wide and cannot chnage the number of posts differently per individual.

Having built and run my own forum (briefly) last year, I can understand the importance of keeping up. The internet is constantly changing and those who don't move with the times eventually suffer one way or another. I will admit that I found the old forum very old fashioned. The new version is much cleaner and (to me) easier on the eye. I think if a couple of teething troubles are ironed out (carly's problem really worries me - in this day and age a blind person should have no problems interacting with others), then everything will be fine. Let's help one another and I'm sure within a week, even those who feel a bit lost will have forgotten it was changed at all :)

I prefer the new version! 99% of the time I visit this forum on my phone and this new version is definitely more mobile friendly. I don't know what all the fuss is about the colour/brightness. It's fine for me I think sites like Facebook and google are way brighter. o_O

You can't please everyone, some people don't like change or take longer to get used to changes. I do feel bad for Mark when people keep saying things like "I can't stand it" or "I hate it" after all the time and effort that's obviously been put into the changes. It'll just take some getting used too that's all, the forum is still full of the same lovely people and great conversation. :D

^this. Software strongly influences the way we move and organise information until those actions become reflexive, but there's nothing natural about those automatic behaviours. New ones become embedded soon enough. If we were changing software in the opposite direction the poll would come out the same and roughly the same people would vote the same way too.

I know some members didn't like the rep system but I am missing it as there have been some posts the last couple of days where a 'like' just doesn't feel enough. I felt the option to add a bit extra to a well worded, or kind, post was nice. I know I could make a public comment but I prefer to be private on these things.

At the mo, I prefer the old one. Because it was clearer to navigate and easier to see new posts and threads. I'm struggling and feel like I'm missing loads. It's just not clear which threads are new.
I don't really like the 'social media' feel to things as I hate Facebook, Twitter etc. But I'm probably in the minority with that.
But it's about getting used to things, so I'm sure I will, the amount I spend on here

Totally agree,

I voted the old way. I am not tech minded and the old was easier to navigate, there are no visitor messages which I like and I cannot find PMs either. It was only by reading other posts I learnt how to stop getting email every time someone answered a post I had posted on. Not liking the smilies and I can't use my emoji keyboard on here either. The smilies are boring after the old forum.
