I was chatting to my friend yesterday about our cars, and she thinks I'm nuts.

We have a couple of vans for work, which don't get named, but our family car is a Defender which I call Missy - mainly due to the letters on the number plate, but also because I think it suits her :D

Does anyone else name their vehicles, or is it just me :eek:ut:

Years ago I had a Vauxhall Astra Estate and although it did not have a name, the number plate was not one I would have chosen - the car was given to me by my parents - hmm, wonder why?!

The number plate read M***UFF :blushing:

It wasn't until some well meaning friend told me what it could be interpreted as - I wish I'd never known!!

I had a Fiat Panda which only had a name when it refused to start - Poxy!!

*Ranting :cursing:* "POXY PANDA!!!"

:D

Yes, always.

My first car was Greenie
Currently my OH's car is called The Trommel (which means "trunk", like a storage trunk because it is sort of squarish) and my car is called "Bakkens" because it is what is known as a "bakkie" (like a UTI in OZ)
We never refer to them as "the car", only by their given names

Oh dear! I think I misspelled: a UTI is a urinary track infection!!!!:eek: I think the spelling is ute. But in any case, my "bakkie" looks like this (handy for cat trapping etc)

I suppose the equivalent would be a small truck, but the US "truck" is usually a ginormous thing, isn't it? Mine is small, only a half ton. In SA, a "truck" is a lorry.

Yes, mine is called Charlie (toyota yaris) because every time the number plate reg was repeated by the insurance company they called him yankie charlie monkey :D He certainly lives up to the name monkey sometimes as he has his quirks with the strange semi auto gear box.

I have always named my cars and they are always boys name, my current car is Fernado - Seat Ibiza FR and my previous Polo was called Vlad, but my all time favourite was Trevor a white Toyota Starlet, the worst is a toss up between Manfred - SLK he let himself down badly when he trapped the cable to control moving the seat backwards and forwards, and Colin - Corolla he main issue was that he was red and I really dislike red cars :eek:ut:

It did occur to me that 'UTI' stood for Urinary Tract Infection' but didn't like to say or make fun for fear of offending you - but thank you for enlightening me on this :)

I have googled this and now know the definition of 'ute' is 'vehicle with a cargo well' :)

 I was gonna mention about the UTI :D

I did name my two previous cars - my Rover had KWC in the numberplate so I called it Kez's Wicked Car (I wont tell you what my SIL said those letters stood for  )

My Cavalier was L ***UBY, so she was called Looby Loo :D

The plate on my current car is FYU.....
You do realise that you may have started a 'guess what these stand for?' thread!! :D

I am NOT even going to go there!! :D
