I took Sophie to my job today as everyone has been asking about her (the lot of them are dog owners and lovers)

They all loved Sophie saying how beautiful she was and said how they now know why we could not have her :D Sophie was tucked in my jacket as it was quite windy!

We then made the drive to my grandmothers (who has been against us getting a dog or any pets for that matter she believes me to be the one always bringing them home and that Ill dump them all on my mom one day.)

Anyways I took Sophie into the big backyard and let her off were she ran and tumbled in the grass chasing some leaves (shes passed out right now)

I then brought Sophie inside as I could see her getting cold to walk in to her my gran and Uncle go on about how nasty Shih Tzu are, that there was one in the news having ripped a womens face apart :

My gran turned to me took one look at Sophie and said well its not my headache and she didnt approve of it.

I had to hold Sophie the entire time as heaven forbid Sophie had an accident on my grans carpets.

My gran did hold her and said once a dog lover always a dog lover (she owned several dogs before)

I guess you cant win with her, not sure if Im in her bad books or not.

Also found out shes planning my mothers funeral  the old bat.

Any dog has the capability of being nasty, it's down to the way they are brought up not what breed they are.

I do think that a lot of the time with small fluffy dogs, they get treated differently and get away with a lot more, sometimes with no boundaries or ground rules, this is what can make them nasty or snappy. They don't know any better so can hardly blame the dogs :(

I had a hold of my friends 2 new shi tzu puppies yesterday, they were really nasty, well it was nasty when she made me leave them behind when I left anyway.

'Blame the owner, not the breed!'

And I agree with you that small toy dogs do develop bad behavioural issues due to the fact that their owners will baby them and shower them with unbalanced affection. Especially owners who pick up and carry their dogs everywhere. Just gives the dog more power when its looking down at other dogs on the floor. Thats a mistake most people make:rolleyes:

Not so sure it can be blamed on the carrying around as my benji didn't know what his little legs were for until he was 4-5 months old, I carried him everywhere. It was only when the lady doing the microchip told me off that I started to put him on the floor. He still knows the boundaries and house rules even though he's my little baby boy who is spoilt rotten... along with 4 others... oops make that 10 others for now :p

I would think some would like to get out of your arms and play with those dogs, not look down upon them with disdain.

I do believe that some toy dogs don't get a lot of socialization with other because of their size, they can be easily hurt and that's worrisome for owners. They need to meet lots of people and other dogs just like the biggies do so they don't develop a fear.

My Biscuit adores playing with tiny dogs because she's usually the small one. She lets them jump all over her. :)

Someone better tell Oscar to have a little snarl now and then, he's the most laid back, docile dog I've ever known! Yes we carry him in the house, cuddle and baby him, but at the end of the day, he's still a dog, with boundaries, rules, and he gets a good rough and tumble with the dogs up on the field every day! Shih Tzus are the perfect companion when raised right - she doesn't know what she's on about, needs to get with the times! :p

I've been bitten by a shih tzu. As in badly enough to go to hospital. So I'd be the perfect person to hate them.

As it happens, I'm well aware that the dog I was bitten by had escapeed from home and was freaking out. We were trying to get it out the road cos it had nearly been run over several times. it was all going really well until it heard a noise and freaked out whilst my hand was near it. Had been able to stroke it and hold it's collar til then. The owner came home, saw the dog, and just took it. Didn't thank us or apologise or anything. So as far as I'm concerned, that was a nasty owner not a nasty dog. Dog was just scared.

All the other shih tzus I've met have been lovely lol.

The one dog Buster is scared of is our neighbour's tiny shih tzu she barks at him and he runs and hides behind me lol. But most of the ones I've met have been lovely a bit barky but they were bred to be. It's when owners think because they're small it's cute when they're aggressive or don't bother training and socialising them you get problems.
