Hello.

Were a family of 18 cats, rescue, ex show and breed.... non ped and pedigree.

They are thoroughly spoilt, and have a large outdoor enclosure on the back of the house 40 x 20ft with a large summerhouse onto it which has lighting, central heating and lots of creature comforts as well as there litter trays and food.

We currently use the wood based litter, we pay ÂŁ16 for 2 30L bags - which last a week. Seems to produce so much waste. We also only clean them once a day (there is a tray for each cat) because its almost impossible to scoop it.

So what do you use? We need something easy, as non smell as litter gets and reasonably priced.

I'm tempted to use world best cat litter as we have used this in the past and thought is was great.... but no idea how much we would get through a month and need to budget.

If you are interested in world's best, I'd get cats best first, as they are almost identical and cats best is much cheaper! I think this would save you money as you just need to scoop the poos and the clumps of wee regularly and not change the whole tray for weeks! Saves loadsa money!!

Have you considered lining the bottom of the litter trays with newspaper? You can then get away with using a lot less cat litter. With 18 cats (unless you can guarantee they each only use their own designated tray) it isn't a good idea to try and get away without clearing the trays out completely at least twice a week.

I used to use a clay litter with litter liners and or newspaper at the bottom. Made so much mess! My kitten absolutely ripped the paper and liner to shreds, he would used to pull all the corners together into the middle so it was like a parcel. Not practical when he needed to go again later!
