I have been married for 33 years but my parents think I am nuts for having multiple dogs and cats.

They don;t say anything any more.stopped that about 25 years ago when I got a Rottweiller...I think they thought then all hope was lost so stopped moaning at me.

I think some of my dogless friends think I am quite the crack pot.

I have 4 daughters who all have multiple dogs and cats so they think its quite normal.

I don't have any family but we took puppy to meet the OH's parents last week . Upon walking through the door his dad exclaimed 'what is that?!' and went on to tell me that we should have just had kids. :scared:

They don't not like them, I think they just don't see the point in having them and see them as a burden.

My family moans about them but they love them really.

All my friends studied animal management and behaviour with me so they are all as animal mad as me.

Some of my non animal friends think its weird I have a hamster as they are "kids pets".

We have....

Three Burmese cats, two pug crosses, a house rabbit and two Royal Pythons.

My mum loves them all :D (except the snakes), she calls the dogs her furry grandchildren and loves them as much as I do.

Her and my sister have a key and go round in the day if hubby isn't around and give them a walk or a pee break.

My mum and sis live in a small flat with three cats so they are just as crazy as me :D

Hubby's family all think I am a bit bonkers though and cant understand why I prefer the furry/scaled ones to children

I don't have multiple dogs at the moment- just the one, but another will be on the cards.

My family were over the moon. They have always instilled a certain amount of independence in us, so when I told them I was getting a pup and they asked a couple of "how are you planning on managing things?" questions (far fewer than I was expecting!!) they were really happy.

They both love dogs, I don't think they would have been so keen if I had said I was getting a cat, and are both in love with Betty. They fall over themselves to look after her and my dad dotes on her like a little baby. They would love to have one themselves, I think, but don't have the ability to do what I do in terms of work, so they have settled with having a grand dog- part time owners!!

The only issue my parents had was my choice of dogs.:scared:

They always had pedigree dogs and I have always had mutts and crossbreeds.

Mum was especially worried about my first dog,a Lurcher, she had grown up with working Lurchers and was a bit scared what my Stripe would do to her Yorkie. She soon realised that Stripe was a lovely dog and both dogs ended up best friends.

Dad loves the dogs I have now as he loves hounds, sadly mum died before I got Craven and Flint.

My brother doesn't like dogs and thinks I'm mad.

My husband was never a dog lover but eventually let me get one to shut me up ( 34 yrs of pestering on my part - full marks for perseverance !!! ) Now he adores Tango just as much as me, and she adores him.I sometimes wonder who comes first in his affections !
My daughter has never really been an animal lover though we've always had cats since before she was born , and sees Tango as an inconvenience because I can't drop everything and go out for the day on the spur of the moment. This has caused quite a rift in our relationship at times.
The grandchildren love her, though she's not very playful she does love being around them.( Could be food related - crumbs dropped at frequent intervals :) )
My son is very easy going , daughter-in-law is dog crazy and does some part time fostering for the local rescue. Much to his surprise my son grew very fond of the last foster dog and was sad when she was rehomed permanently.
DIL is desperate for her own dog but they're not in a position to get one at the moment - I'm sure it won't be long !
So you could say very mixed responses from my family.

They don't understand that pets are a huge part of my life- that I love having them around. They think I am burdening myself with them when they is no need. They don't understand that dogs etc can be such a big hobbie/a central part of your life. When I would be totally lost without animals in my life. They see animals as more of a chore and something that restricts your life a lot where I see animals as a joy and a pleasure. The family say they sometimes help out with the pets to 'save me' but they otherwise wouldn't choose to. It is something we disagree on a lot. But I stay firm that whatever they think animals will always be in my life/home!

Out of my immediate family - my husband is not keen on dogs but tolerates (and secretly loves) ours, he wouldn't have any, nevermind five, if it wasn't for me but he knows and understands why I love them so much.

My son is dog mad and has two of his own.

My daughter, despite always being around dogs growing up, doesn't have much interest in them and shares the thoughts of her dad.

Friends and other family are a mixed bag - some really aren't keen on dogs and cannot fathom why I would want so many, some quite like them but wouldn't want any of their own, and others adore them and wish they could have as many.

But! At the end of the day - as long as the people who have to live in the house around the dogs (me and my husband) are happy with them, then I couldn't give a stuff what anyone else thinks! :D

I stopped visiting my mother because she hated my dogs. Always thought they were dirty and made a mess everywhere. So I stopped going. Simples.

She did travel down a couple of times to see us, and to be fair, she did make the effort to interact with my dogs, but she always felt uneasy in their company but could see how much I loved them and what we did together. She even came along to a few competitive agility shows to watch us compete!

Very odd though, because we had dogs as kids, but they were my dad's and weren't allowed in the house so to speak, we had to keep them in the garden, their kennels and the boot room which was huge. Needless to say, dad and I spent a lot of time in the boot room!:D

My sister has just recently rescued two elderly cats (12 years old) and she's well and truly smitten. She said she'd prefer cats to dogs because at least she can go out for the day and leave the cats at home. She's had them about 2 months now and doesn't leave them for more than a Sainsbury's shop.... They did have a dog many years ago, but when she eventually had to be put to sleep, they vowed they'd never put themselves through that pain again. I don't know how she thinks they'll get over it when these cats "go".... they're both bonkers about them.

My husband is the same.......comes home and there is another dog or cat in the house. He just looks now and says nothing, he understands, he also likes having 1 dog around but doesn't say anything about any more. He really likes 1 of my cats and he has never been a cat person.

My mum doesn't understand how animals are a huge part of my life. I chose to have 2 kids, and while I don't regret that in the slightest, it does limit what I can do away from home, hobbies etc. Animals are a love of mine I can carry on while being at home for the kids.

Her or my sister do not get why I want multiple pets. They have no pets and are not intending on getting any. My other sister likes dogs and wants one in the near future.

My dads side of the family well my dads gf in particular are about as animal mad as me :D They have dogs, cat, horses, guinea pigs, sheep! fish. They get it, they have never said anything untoward about my animals.

My mum just the other day was quite horrified, we were all going out but she came in, I had Dave here and my temp baby gate was on the kitchen door as it was a bit wet out and I didn't want mud walked through the house. So of course they see someone new come in and all rush up. They are used to a solid gate so nearly knocked this one down in excitement... and I was crossly told that was too many dogs in a house this small. Most people don't pester the dogs if they don't want greeted by them but of course she wanted to look at the puppy  I got a big lecture about that too.

Bah, I know I can cope, I don't put the dogs before the kids, and everyone is well looked after so I am not fussed really. Just wish they would stop making comments. They think my pets are a tie and too much trouble. And they definitely cannot understand why I have a beardie AND a snake

Even as a child I was absolutely dog mad so everyone knew it was pretty much inevitable I'd be getting dogs at some point.

My mum and dad possibly think I'm a bit mad for having four but I just get a good natured eye roll whenever I mention getting another  They do love the dogs really though, my dad has even been known to give Arnie the last bit of tea from his mug on occasion

I'm in the process of actively converting my sister. My little niece is also animal mad and desperately wants a pet of some kind and I'm pretty convinced that for their situation and what they want from a pet a dog would actually be ideal

Most of my family love pets. My dad and stepmum have 2 dogs, 4 cats, a desert iguana and fish. They used to have snakes too.

I LOVE dogs, I wouldn't say I have any urges to have other pets but I will always have at least one dog and even though I just have one dog at the moment I'm still dog crazy. I love all the general day to day doggy things (some may call them chores whilst I find it all very relaxing).

My fb friends ignore most of my pics/posts of Lucky (except my PF friends of course), they just aren't interested.

My family all love Tia :D.
My parents never had a dog when I was growing up but we had other pets, various cats, guinea pigs, a gecko, fish, stick insects and a hamster.
My mum's parents had dogs when she was growing up, GSDs and mongrels and my dad's parents had a big mongrel when I was a toddler and a boxer before they had kids. They've all owned cats either before or currently too, my mum has three now. My auntie (dad's sister) and her fiance have a cocker spaniel, they're the only other ones that actually have a dog but there's no one that doesn't like them. Even my great grandma loves Tia and she's 100 lol.
So yeah animals are just sort of expected in my family :p.

My parents know I prefer animals to people and only really disapprove if I get into double figures with any one type!
They are animals lovers who never really had any animals though! ('cept one family dog). They wouldnt have a dog coz they worry about walking it enough and they have never had a cat coz they have always lived on busy roads, although my dad is big fan of my cats when he comes round.:)
