feeling a bit guilty already about no walk

Now i am by no means a fair weather walker. i have NEVER not taken my dog on a walk becasue of the weather, i have been to soaked to the skin, snowed on, sleeted, walked through knee deep water and been blown around but there is a possibility tonight might have to be the first time for both of our safety that we dont go with the gale force winds were having and warnings issued of trees falling. However i feel guilty already. he doesnt poop in the garden and i feel bad that he might have to hold it. :( (also wont poop on pavements or on lead so a pavement walk wouldnt work). anyone else having to cut walks out or change up their routines?

Don't feel bad, the Met Office have issued a red warning which means there is a "risk to life" so you're just being sensible. One missed day of walks won't hurt him. It isn't ideal with the pooping situation, but if he gets desperate he might just go in the garden? Or in the house :p

Cancelled meeting up with a friend this morning as we were planning to go to a very exposed area and could well have been blown away!;)

Don't think we will be hanging around too much, in fact I may well just walk round the edges of the fields.

My lot usually go out about 9 am for an hour. It is now 1:30pm and I am just about to take them out. Seriously couldn't face another soaking, gale force winds and hail storms and then cleaning up all the mud when we get home. Reproofed my waterproofs yesterday so am going to go for it! Only the second time this winter I have delayed walks so I am not doing too badly. At the moment my dogs are all flat out relaxing anyway so perhaps they could get used to a more laid back approach to life.

Mine will have to go out as they hold their toileting for walks and wont really go in the garden. I am going to attempt to go to a less muddy area, which unfortunately means the local woods but not sure how that will pan out considering the wind an rain!

I feel guilty myself as mine havent been having great walks due to the amount of mud I have to deal with (it's getting very tiresome trying to clean them up) and my mission to cut down on fuel usage.

i dont mind the mud so much at all, its getting flattened by a tree in the gales im worried about (quite unlilkely i know but there are alot of downed trees on my route already) but the red alert in my area for wind is not a good sign. good luck with your walk!

Mine had their usual 1.5-2hrs this morning but my Spanner has been bugging me from 12 for his second walk... I've given him a stuffed hoof to take his mind off of it lol. Not sure if I'll take him out for his second walk yet, looks like the storm should have passed us in an hour or so so might venture out. Shae has agility in an indoor barn (phew!) so she'll be fine without a second walk.

For the most part they've had their usual walks, maybe only an hour if it's been tipping it down :( I'm lucky that we've got loads of good walks from the house so avoid the getting into the car wet and getting the inside of the car all wet stuff!

Ditto - gusts of 80mph forecast here and I'm scared of flying debris so we're staying in - one of mine prefers to toilet out on walks so she hasn't been out to do anything since last night.
I feel so bad :-(
I'm keeping a close eye on the weather hoping for a break so I can get out even if it's for 20 minutes

We've just got heavy rain here atm. Can deal with wet. Just been out for an hour walk in it. Pavement plod only though, couldn't face the muddy field.

A little rain never hurt any body...
absolutely a little rain never hurt anyone its the 80 - 90 mile an hour winds, mixed with the torrential rain were having that are worrying

I look at it this way. My dogs rely on me for their care, that includes keeping them exercised. It also includes keeping them and myself safe, after all I am no use to them if I have an accident! I have to make decisions on their behalf. So if I feel the conditions are unsafe, too frightening for them or I am so unwell I am would be incapable of being in full control I make the decision not to go out that day. I do not feel guilty, of course I could stay in and fall down the stairs! But it is all about risk assessment, if there is an increased danger due to conditions I do not feel bad about trying to keep my dogs safe.

I never really feel guilty, perhaps I'm just an awful person  In fact I rather like that Kes can go without a walk with no bother instead of climbing the walls.
Totally agree with this.

I consider it quite important for our dogs to be able to miss a walk (or even a few) without going loopy. It's almost inevitable that there will be times they can't be walked so it's good to know that in such situations they'll be happy enough to stay inside.

The weather is dreadful today and I feel thoroughly rough so we're having a duvet day together

mine wont climb the walls as such or totally miss the walk itself, its more the chance to toilet if he needed toi felt more bad about:( . but hopefully hell deem the hydro persons garden more suitable:)
