Just had an interesting conversation with the guy at our local feed shop ( after i vowed not to go in again after he fibbed about their own brand food but thats another story :D)
He said i should feed 7 am and 7 pm usually i spread food over 3 meals usually. 6.45 am 12.30 pm ish and then 4 ish .
I know i should really only feed twice daily but this works for us with no problems
Very interested to see what you all do .

mine varies..in summer when they're playing out in garden all day I'll divide their kibble into treat toys, ball pool pit or just scattered over garden to find throughout the day with a few treats thrown in (maybe cocktail sausage cut up).

Sometimes I replace some of the kibble with wet food stuffed into a kong or hollow bones that will keep them busy for a while if they're stuck indoors cos its raining.

I feed fresh as well sometimes and other training treats so that all comes out of their 'dinner quota', so they don't just get one or two big bowls of food with the entire amount in at once.

We feed three times a day: 7am, 2pm and 8pm
Mainly beacuse Hera is fussy and wont eat half of her food allowance in one go. But Nyx eats like hes never seen food before or ever again. So this allows fussy madam chance to eat and greedy guts limited scoffing.

The majority of them have a few biscuits at 8am and then dinner at 5.30pm.

The old girl has breakfast at 7.30am and dinner at 5.30pm.

Weekdays are generally quite regimented due to working times & allowing enough time before or after a walk

Mornings - usually just before 7

Evenings - about 5.15 (basically as soon as I get in) - otherwise it's really late before she gets it which I don't like

However, as the nights draw in, I will be starting to rush out as soon as I get in to get a daylight walk so she will get it about 7.30 :(

Once it gets to being dark when I get home, I'll prob switch back to feeding her when I get in & walking late

Being nosey - how many times / day does Hacker poop?
Generally 2 or 3 times unless hes nobbled something he shouldn't have when out working the hedgerows

We feed breakfast at 7am. This suits us as we all breakfast at this time. He has a large kong at lunchtime with his kibble in. Lots of his daily allowance is fed throughout the day for training and llw. The rest is given about 6pm when we have finished our tea. I don't think it matters too much. It is what suits you, your family and your dog.

Whenever I shift work and the dogs work round that. We are sometimes still out at horses/ running or friends houses at 10pm and will get fed when we get home.

Some times they get fed once some times twice.

Mine get a lot of picky bits through out the day ( sandwich crusts/ left overs) and very rarely get sicky bile.

Is the shop assistant qualified in canine nutrition?

How often you feed a dog is entirely up to you and what suits the individual dog.

The amount may be the same but the frequency may alter depending on

pre existing medical conditions
predisposition to certain medical conditions
your own schedule
Age of dog

to name but a few.

I do not have fixed times when my dogs are fed, the adults are normally fed twice a day roughly 12 hours apart but quite often they will get their food during training.

My 10 week old pup is currently on around 4 - 5 feedings a day but again not from a bowl but hand fed during training or, if needs be, in a kong.

There is no "should" about frequency.

I tend to space out the two meals for adults to maintain blood sugar levels, break up the day and minimise the risk of GDVBloat

I know i should really feed twice in a day the mans logic was that if im giving him his tea at 4 ish he will then be holding his poo in overnight which isnt good for him , i understand that but hacker will poo anytime between 7 am and 8.30 his times are never regular soo a bit confused ....

You feed when it is convenient for you and your dogs.

Mine get fed whenever I get up, which is between 6am-9:30am depending on whether I'm at a work or not.

Their second meal is anywhere between 4-6pm ish.

Personally I've always fed twice a day when my dogs are beyond the puppy stage.
