Puppy digging in crate & hard floors?

Hey all quick question... We brought our puppy home today and he's been in and out of his crate a few times, explored the house & garden etc. had his dinner and now has just wandered into his crate (door wide open) shoved his water and blankets to one end and started digging and running round in circles frantically at the other end. Flopped down a couple of times, looked like he couldn't get comfy, come out of the crate and started digging at our laminate floors. No digging in the garden, the carpeted hall or on our living room rug - just the hard surfaces (crate bottom is metal). He's used to a crate as our breeder had one, although he obviously wasn't alone in it!

Any ideas why he's doing it? And whether we should try to stop him? He's actually just settled down now at my feet on the laminate but just curious because it was really hard, frantic like digging!!

Belle spends about 10 minutes digging and throwing her bed around at night before she's satisfied she can sleep on it, and she's 14!

The only thing I would say is one time Daisy did really frantic digging and seemed unable to settle and we realised she had stood in nettles on a walk and was obviously in some discomfort from her feet. But it's most likely just normal puppy behaviour!

when I got JJ I got one of those puppy teddies that you can put an heartbeat in and heat pack and put it in with him when it was bed time and he settled straight away, so did that everynight so he knew when it was bedtime.

He was really good and only cried when he needed wee's (in early hours) and would go straight back in after, until 7am when I got up.
