It may have been an accident or it may not have been, the South African police clearly believe it wasn't. They are treating him as a man who deliberately murdred his girlfriend and don't, for whatever reason, seem to be considering the intruder story as a possibility - Oscar Pistorius murder charge: South African police deny burglary claims | World news | guardian.co.uk
The police and courts are so corrupted here so I expected the result to be that, if he wasn't white he would have gotten off with a bail fee here.

Lost count how many people are set free with a bail fee and do 10 times worse things than him.

I haven't actually read anything about it yet, but the intruder story doesn't wash with me, surely you would look before you shot someone? You wouldn't just shoot someone 4 times at close range without noticing that it is your girlfriend!

Maybe I am wrong and maybe he was truly mistaken but TBH I don't believe a word he says!
In South Africa you have no time to check if it is a burgular before you shot dead, but he should have checked first where his girlfriend was by calling her first if the burgular theory is true.

Who the bleedin hell in the world is Oscar Pistorious when he's at home??

Never ever heard of him until some sent me this :

Roses are red,
Violets are glorious,
Don't try to surprise
Oscar Pistorius.

I have no idea who or what they meant:p
It is a rumour that his girlfriend was surprising him for valentines by making him breakfast early.

He apparently lives in one of the most safest places in SA.....
His estate is also apparently heavily guarded , Via security guards/Dogs /cctv ...

Innocent till proven guilty absolutely .....

But something is'nt sitting right with me .

But that's just my opinion ...

RIP Reeva ..... sympathy and condolences to her family and friends ...
In South Africa nothing stops a criminal from breaking into a property even if the security is like Fort Knox they will still get in and steal things in under 5 minutes.

My gran lives also in Pretoria East with high security like that and they still get break ins cause nothing stops corruption so the people in the area have formed their own security system via two way radios to stop criminals and it is very effective.

Whats funny here is that only 1% of the days crime gets into the paper or news since theres way too much here so only famous people make it into the news half the time so makes us look like we dont have too much crime. Tells you how much crime we got compared to other countries.

We would have to have more than 5 24 hour channels to show all our crime on the news not making anything up I wish it was :D.

It's interesting to hear your pint of view. My OH was born and lived for a while in Zambia and it was basically if someone comes onto our property you shot first ask questions later. Which I found shocking but he said that's what you needed to do.

I have a SA work colleague and he emigrated here because he didn't want his daughters growing up somewhere so unsafe and corrupt. It's very sad really.

I don't like speculating but it sounds like a dodgy situation all around. There are far too many questions. Hopefully there will be more info forthcoming in the coming days....

RIP to the lady who lost her life. I've seen pictures of her and she was a stunning girl, such a shame.

Tigerneko, yes, it does sound like a "cover your back" story...BUT remember the guy would be in bed at 5 am so it would be dark and he would be half asleep. He has no legs so if he heard something downstairs he could not jump out of bed, go on to the landing and shout or ask who was there. All he could do was take the gun and wait for them to come in. But there are people who say the gf was there all night (maybe her car was outside? Nosey neighbours can be useful!). I have ny doubts too but we are not a jury altho we all have our own opinions. Because he behaved questionably at the Olympics - as some posters have mentioned - really doesn't imply he's a cold-blooded killer.

I know he is a sporting hero etc etc, as well as a fellow countryman, and lives in my home town, but I never liked the man. For some reason, he made my hackles rise. My instincts are often correct.
All the dirt is coming out now as well (from former girlfriends).
The "domestic problem" that was reported apparently happened earlier that same evening - neighbours called to complain about some sort of fight between him and Reeva (victim). The police say they do not know where the story came about that he had mistaken her for a burglar. Apparently she was found dead behind a bathroom door.

The police don't seem to of said much and until the it comes to court I don't think they will - all the 'information' seems to of come from speculation of the media - rumours are that she was shot through a shut bathroom door and that he says he thought there was an intruder.
The police have said they were called to domestic incidents - but it's the media who are saying that was earlier that night, ex-girlfriends are supposedly coming forward with stories of abuse etc - but again we have no way of knowing the truth
It is all very strange
In theory she could of sneaked in to surprise him, he could of been in bed woken up to hear someone in the bathroom, reached for his gun and shot through the closed door in panic.
It is apparently quite common for armed robbers to enter properties in SA when they know people are in as this is the only time alarms are switched off - I have no idea how true that is.
But saying all that - I think it's all very suspicious and it'll be interesting to see the evidence and facts once it comes to court.
As I said earlier my thoughts are with the families and I hope the truth comes out.

I always thought he was an arrogant so and so after his interview at the olympics.and took an instant dislike to him. So therefore it would not surprise me at all if he shot her on purpose.

My sympathies to her family and friends
