How long does your (adult) dog last at night between toilets?

I ask this question because murphles has a cast iron bladder and can easily last 16/17hrs plus.

But now tilly might be starting to go the same way.

Her current routine has been the same for months now. She has a short on lead walk round about 7pm. She normally does a wee on that walk.

She then goes to bed in her crate. I pop her in the garden at about midnight. She does another wee then and that's her done then til about 10am the next day when i would normally walk her.

However the past 2 nights in a row, she has not peed in the garden at midnight. And neither has she had me up. So she has gone from 7pm ish through to about 10am without having a wee.

I am thinking about not bothering popping her out at midnight if she can just go right through.

Is this pretty typical though? Do most of you put your dogs out before going to bed yourselves or not?

Thanks!

Nooka can go for ages without peeing. She goes out before we go to bed, but doesn't usually pee then to be honest! She'll probably have her last pee after tea, so around 7pm usually, then will go until morning without having a pee, sometimes even mid-morning as she doesn't usually pee when I let her out before work in the early morning, but will wait until whoever gets up to do the chickens and toilet down the field.
Fly on the other hand pees every time he goes outside, but he is a lurcher with a skinny waist so I think he has a small bladder too! Plus he's a boy and likes to have a sniff and pee up things.

They all go out for a last wee at around 11pm and sleep through till a first wee at around 7am. I'm not sure they actually want either tbh but they get them regardless. I do sometimes have to encourage them to go outside as left to their own devices they wouldn't bother.My females have cast iron bladders but the boys not so much but they probably go just to please me and can always squeeze a few drops out.

One of the things I love and loath about my two is their cast iron bladders.
Maude especially will often go out in the morning and not pee and regularly holds her bladder for 16 hours. It drives me nuts and I worry about UTIs every time she does it.
On the plus side, they can both go hours without asking to go out so on those days we want a lay in or an early night, they don't fuss about it.

I honestly think that us having a very erratic schedule helps here. Its obviously different with puppies where regular schedules are more important but I love the fact that neither of my dogs will demand a walk, their dinner, a play etc because they have no preconceived notions as to when such things should happen.

The longest Bonnie has ever gone is 10 hours but I think she could probably last longer - she rarely seems that interested in 'going' first thing and does a token squat because its expected of her. I always put her out last thing at night though, because very rarely she does ask to go out early in the morning and I'd be really cross with myself if I had to get up at 4 because I hadn't bothered putting her out at bedtime!

Probably a relic of looking after fosters who needed to be house trained/re-trained but we take the dogs outside at 10 pm and will not let them back in until they have had a wee, then they are put outside at 7 am the next morning. If we have had fireworks, Sophie is too nervous to wee in the evening and is allowed to go to bed anyway as an exception and seems to last quite happily until 7 am. I do not usually know when she last relieved herself the day before so it could be a very long time.

We let our two out for a last wee about 11pm ish and then up in the morning about 7:30am. However, we have taught both ours to wee on cue so not sure if they are just humouring us or whether they actually need to go. Neither of them wake us up in the night/morning for a wee and could probably last longer if left. Our old dog had a cast iron bladder - i think she would have held it all day if it was raining!

Nova has realised on a walk that if there's something particularly interesting that she wants to sniff that if she squats and pretends to wee, she'll get a longer sniff. Sneaky!

Mine does this too! Especially if she is about to go back on the lead to come home - it's 'wait, I'm really sniffing because I'm desperate to go' even though she's been loads on her walk - I think she keeps a little bit in reserve just for this!

same with mine ( female staffie )

same again with mine sometimes .. although rarely ..
i'd prefer that she does wee at the midnight outing :)

i do get the impression she likes to save some if possible
so she can do her mark-the-spot thing the next time she's out and about ..

although sometimes she doesn't wee at her 10am foray ..
holds it 'till about midday .. when she goes to a particular wooded area ..
then squats 'n wees for seemingly a very long time ..

~~~~~~~~~~~
she sometimes gets cranberries with her food
( to guard against UTIs hopefully .. 7 old aprox. years and no problems there )
Mine probably toilet at about 11pm at latest in the evening, then I will get woken up by a bark at about 5am and three of them will go out and wee and then go back to bed until I get up at 7am. it does actually help me because I can take my thyroid tablet then.They are usually a bit more considerate on the weekend and will go back to bed until after 8am until their tummies start rumbling and Sparkle insists on having her breakfast.
If it's raining my parents whippets can hold on FOREVER. Sometimes you have to force them outside for them to wee, otherwise they'd hold for hours and hours.
Teds is similar but I don't think he can last quite as long! If it's raining he hates going outside. He normally gets let out at 10pm for his last wees and then I'm up at 6-6.30 in the morning. Though he's never desperate so I'm sure he could last for longer. I always give him opportunities throughout the day (as he was an ex-street dog, he did think he could just wee anywhere at first) but sometimes he knows what I want from him, but he doesn't actually need a wee, so he just cocks his leg up something and looks at me (not actually weeing) as if to say 'look mum, I'm doing it! Now give us a treat'
When I go to work Alfie is in his (extra large) crate from 7.30pm til 8.30am and I cant remember the last time he had to use the puppy pad in there, he prefers to wait and liberally mark the garden when he gets out!LOL
The other three have puppy pads by the back door but they hardly use them overnight either. I suppose if you think about it dogs probably dont need to pee alot, I mean generally they arent big drinkers are they?
I take Cad out for a pee before I go to bed, usually about 11pm but sometimes earlier or later. He knows me taking him out vs him asking to go out means it's the last peeing before he goes in his crate so always does something. He can then usually last till 8-11am.
(Don't ask about poos though, he usually needs one of them at 6am)
I honestly wouldn't know. Zara and Oscar don't live like the vast majority of dogs. They have 24/7 free roam of the house and their enclosure and can come and go as they please.:)
As Brecon is only just 9 months I haven't tested him beyond 8 hours, but my instinct is that he could last a lot longer. Fortunately, as he hates rain, there is a part of the garden he can access to wee while remaining under cover. I'm pretty sure that, if this was not the case, he would refuse to wee when it rains!
All my adult dogs can generally hold their wee for as long as they need - and sometimes that's choosing to have their last wee when we are in the garden maybe at 7pm and not go again until morning. I prefer them to go later though.
I do find it's dependent on their relationship with drinking though. My young Lab lovers water (she'd swim in the drinking bowl if she could) and as a result drinks for pleasure and needs to wee more often as a result. Some of mine only drink when thirsty which means they tend to wee less - although this time of year I am encouraging the drinking (ice cubes/flavoured water/hose pipe play etc) to keep up their intake. (So more wee :D).
