High value, easy to carry treats?

I'm still trying to find the perfect treat to use for teaching a nice LLW. Since Ted is distracted by everything, it needs to be something super high value.

I've been using chicken jerky, but would prefer to save it for recall training. It's awkward to slice into small pieces for LLW, and takes a while to chew.

Also used cheese, but it's awkward to carry in your pocket :p Similarly, any form of meat or chicken is really horrible to carry on walks (slimey hands ;) )

He's not interested in Fish4dogs stuff (and even they're quite chunky, so not great for LLW).

Guess I'm looking for something grain free, very high value (stinky), and easily divisible for use on walks? Yet which doesn't smush in your pocket.

Ted would probably work for some of the more commercial dog treats, since they tend to be pretty soft and stinky (Coachies, Bakers, Wagg...). However I can't risk the dodgy tummy which results from eating too much of them.

I used to make my own and the following were crumb free non soggy and very palatable.
Bring a pan of liver (any kind) to the boil, remove from heat, drain and chop into the desired size cubes.
Place on an old baking tray and pop in the oven on a very low heat for a few hours until the liver is dry.
Thats it! easy peasy cheap dog treats ;)

Natures Menu treats.

High meat value, and easy to slice into smaller pieces. Even for my large dogs I cut them into 3 so they're swallowed quickly and I can be really generous with rewards.

Apart from sliced hot dog and squeezy liver paste these appear highest value to my two. I save the liver paste for jackpot recall training as for LLW you want a very quick reward marker.

They do lose some of their moistness once exposed to air so I slice a limited amount at a time and keep the rest sealed into their airtight, resealable bag.

Squeezy cheese, liver or heart cooked in the oven until it's fairly dry on the outside, liver cake or some alternative.

I use a treat bag, find it much easier and less messy than putting things like cheese or bits of meat in my pocket or trying to get them out of plastic bags when I need them. Slimy hands get wiped on a piece of kitchen roll or the dog walking jeans lol.

Liver and a bait bag.

Arden Grange do a nice liver paste that mine can't get enough of, trouble is - it's quite expensive. We do use Primula squirty cheese too - the whole licking it from a tube seems to be exciting. And dehydrated liver.

Mine will work for anything though.

I wish I had found out how to make these, I hadn't realised that they were home made until too late.

I was at a training class and we were trying to do off lead work and Isla kept running off to try and play with the other dogs. Nothing I had in the treat bag was better then a chance of a play. Someone handed me a dry fishy cube and said 'try that'. It worked, she would have sold her soul to get at it. It was extremely fishy smelling and Isla gave a huge burp when she finished it. I only had to waft it under her nose and she was mine!

i do liver muffins but i guess its like liver cake the only extra i do with it is dry it out in the dehydrator - takes out all the moisture - still leaves a bit of a mess but she is more than willing to clean my pocket afterwards :)

The treats pogo makes are precut bits of liver. Dried so they don't smell or stick. No mess. Snoopy loves them. They were our super treats in puppy school.
