hi all,im back after the good laugh we had on my last thead(http://www.petforums.co.uk/dog-chat/34365-friend-trying-breed-but-boys-isnt-peforming-100-wat-do.html#post558586)

but this time its for me....
me and my wife are finally thinking about getting a puppy, we were in two minds wether to get my friends Neo Mastiff pups but have decided not too as the stud wasnt able to rise to the task. anyway we have seen Akita cross Tabetan Mastiff (aka Simba) which we are really intrested in, only issue is the 500miles round trip
also he is letting the pups go at 6 weeks as they have been weened for almost 2 weeks.
the mums the akita and seems to be of very good temprement.
what questions should i ask... and the fact they are leaving at 6weeks also means no jabs!!!!have spoken to my vet who said it is common with larger breeds to let them leave a little earlier.
what questions should i ask, also does anyone on here have any crosses like this?

the lifting heavy obects is always a worry cause he is MASSIVE carryinghim around for a month should be good fun!
Tashi i do see what your saying but isnt the training that you provide just as important?
Some of it is also in the breeding, yes alot of it is training but not a cross for me I am afraid :frown2: we used to have tibetan mastiffs at our local training class it was a standing joke for us trainers to count our fingers before and after attempting to go over the dog

Been weaned for two weeks is no excuse for them leaving mom at 6 weeks, the pups learn alot of vital and important behaviour from interacting with siblings and mom.

I am of the same opinion as Tashi I'm afraid,a breeder and litter to be running away from.

Great advice, Breeding counts a huge amount as far as temperment is concerned. I would also steer clear as 6 weeks is to young, they still need mum and siblings till 8 weeks it is also about socialising not just food.

i thought we blame the deed not the breed?
i understand about the breeding thinking about letting pups go early...
but isnt it wrong to say that the breed would be bad?
what temprament problems do the Tibetan mastiff have?
We do blame the deed and not the breed, however when you are crossing two breeds one with dominant tendancies and another reknown for temprament problems it's hard not to judge as you could be setting yourself up for a huge disaster, plus it encourages breeder's which in my mind are typical BYB's to carry on breeding with little thought and consideration.

All dogs which are bred from should have rock solid tempraments,I am assuming you haven't met neither parent to this litter therefore are relying purely on what the breeder has told you.

You need to remember the history of the TM,untrained ones can be extremely aggressive and unpredictable, bear in mind that this dog was bred to guard its flocks against wolves, leopards and bears which the dog could attack and kill with ease, now cross this with a dominant breed like an Akita and you could well have an unpredictable, highly aggressive, powerful dog on your hands.

I didn't want to bring this up but you didn't fair well with your last pup,so I for one am very concerned about you taking on such a cross from nothing more than a BYB.

Okay I will be the baddie here. This type of cross imo will be difficult to handle. You previously had an 10 week old Bulldog that you had to return and at one point you stated it was "alpha"
I would listen to the advice given by people in the know about these 2 types of dogs to save you havin it for a few weeks and then it having to be returned

ps Did you ever get your money back for Diesel?

Having read back at your old posts I'm definately with Clueless with this one. Get a nice oldie that doesn't need any experience or special handling, there's so many wonderful oldier dogs in rescue that would be ideal for you. :thumbup1:
