Hi

I have a british shorthair and one of his eyes has been weeping for about 3 or 4 days now and it looks all kind of glazed and i just wondered if anybody knew what this could be?

I looked on the internet and it said that they can get infections in the eye ducts and to bathe it in salt water, which is virtually impossible as he wont let me anywhere near his face/eyes at the best of times!

I am going to make an appointment at the vets today but has anybody got any experience of this and know what it could be?

If its weeping that can be a sign that there is either something in it or hes got an injury to the actual eye itself. As you said the eye looks glazed as well that could indicate an injury. Does he go out? if so he could have got in a fight with another cat or as I said got something in it. Usually if its just a bacterial infection the whites of the eye are inflammed and if theres a discharge its usually thickened and discoloured either yellowish or green tinged. If he has injured it or got something in it you can get secondary bacterial infection in it too. It does need checking out. The vet will probably put a dye in it which will show up any scratches or ulceration and you will probably be given anti biotic eye ointment or drops I would think.

Hi
Thanks for your advice. Siggy doesnt go out, only in the garden so he doesnt meet other cats. Although he does playfight with George, our other cat. Anyway i have booked him at the vets tonight so we will see. Im just hoping is nothing but better to be safe than sorry! :)

If its been weeping for a few days now there is obviously something wrong and the longer its left the worse it will get so it does need to be checked. Hope he is ok. Let us know how he gets on.
