Strange things that you cats do

I love Ash and Garfield, but bless them they don't quite understand how to use the litterbox.

They always use the box and have never had a single accident, but they don't quite grasp the concept of digging.

They obviously know that they are supposed to bury it, but more often that not you will find them with a hopeless and confused expression on their face while they furiously paw at the side of the litterbox.

Luckily they have a big sister who usually comes along and buries it for them. They have seen her do it a thousand times, but bless their hearts they can't quite grasp what they are supposed to do. You can tell from their expression that they are trying their best!

What are some strange things your cats do?

Rodney's a master at not covering up his business, everything surrounding the litter tray will get a good scraping but never the litter itself. He'll spend ages scraping the wall & the floor then stare at the tray then have another scrape, eventually he'll give up & wander off.

Tbh most things Rodney does are strange, he's a very strange cat!

Sneeze back if you sneeze!!

Do an islamic call to prayer first thing in the morning.

Run around the house growling like a dog at nothing in particular.

Drop toys in water bowls AND (warning GROSS - in washing up bowls by the bed that have been used for being sick in)

Start kneading your tummy then gradually work their way upwards towards your head in a strange pervy way...

@Smuge

Actually, burying (or not burying) poo is a behaviour with a specific purpose for cats.

Cats who bury their poo do so based on their instinct to conceal it from passing predators.

Not burying poo is a method of leaving a message for any passing cats that the territory is already 'taken' by another cat.

Some cats bury their poo sometimes, some cats never bury it, some cats always bury it. Your female cat is one of those who is security conscious and protective of the two boys. So she sees the unburied poo and comes along and buries it. This protects her and the boys from any passing 'predators'.

If the boys do actually try to bury their poo without succeeding, then it is likely to be due to how they learnt to do it from their mum. So, big sister to the rescue. :)

Cosmo isn't very good at flushing the litter tray after he's used it. He waves his hands around in the air / up the wall / on the floor but never anywhere near what he's done in the tray (perhaps he doesn't want to risk getting his hands dirty!).

Parsnip has 9 o'clock naughties where he suddenly objects to a picture on the wall in the lounge and shouts at it then gets on the back of the chair and tries to poke at it. But only around 9 in the evening.

As for Flint.....

I honestly don’t know where to start with my girls! I’d be here all night.

As for litter trays, Libby covers and covers and covers, she try’s to time this covering when we are having supper, which im sure is deliberate to put us off our food so she can sweep in and steel off our plates.

Loulou loves everyone to know she has produced a poop and likes it uncovered and will go back over and over to check it’s still there, when I clear the tray, the look of disgust I get off her could turn you to stone.

Lottie will only poop outside, she hasn’t reached Australia YET but give her time!

Bunty will wee in the litter tray either just when I'm ready to go to bed or as soon as she sees me appear in the morning but she will never poo in the tray, it has to be outside. When we had the snow, she must have been so uncomfortable as she did nothing for two days until the horrid snow had gone then it was a mad dash for her favourite part of the garden.

Toppy has to announce he is going to go with loud yelling then he spends about 15 minutes in the tray, he digs and digs and digs for about five minutes, then gets out, gets back in, sometimes 2-3 times, another digging session then he goes, always with his front paws on the front of the litter tray. Afterwards, its another ten minutes madly burying it. Outside, its even worse as he throws earth everywhere, I can go and make a cup of tea and come back and look out the window and he's still at it.

There are so many strange things they do! I'm loving all the litter box stories:D Sasha tells us before he goes out that he's off and will lead whoever is around to the cat flap to have the door opened and he expect us to say good bye. When he gets back he loudly announces to the house that he is home and will yell until someone says "Hello" or "You're back!" I'm also not allowed to visit the bathroom alone, where once there was one cat pushing the door open, I now have two who sit on the bath mat and stare. When Maizy sleeps on the floor (carpet) she always holds on with her front paws, claws sunk in the pile arms wide apart as if she might fall off, that's one thing I can't figure out, anyone have any idea why she does this?

Hehehe Lucky boys to have tali. My friends cats who I cat sit when she is away are the same, they never bother to cover up their poo! My two are very good at that for the most part, they work very hard :) Mojo ALWAYS digs digs digs very well, and saffi will occasionally not bother but mostly does - But... she rarely bothers to open her mouth when she meows. She looks up at me with her beautiful face and does the longest meow without bothering to open her mouth. It makes me laugh every time.
I will have to write a list of all the strange things they do called cat logic or something. There are so many! Odd creatures.

Mojo does the same thing. So much so, that I took him to the vet to check it wasn't pain related. He howls!!!

Jessie has the same toilet habits as Bunty! But unlike Bunty, she did go out n perform in "her" spot in the garden. It was interesting watching her dig in the snow n cover up when she had done. There was a little hillock amongst the flat white plains:D

I am actually laughing out loud reading these, they are really striking a chord!

Milo is a champion pooper and he never ever covers and they stink enough to raise you from slumber. Having just moved to a bungalow there is now no escape. Suki is the complete reverse, he will dig and dig, move all the litter up to one end, then back again. But almost every time, they lie in wait for each other and then it's zoom round the house time.

Mostly I love their little voices. Milo does this "prrp" whenever you make any form of contact with him, whether I talk to him or touch him. He's a lot more vocal, especially when it comes to dinner time. Suki is a lot higher pitched, and seems as though he answers you back. Very cute when he miaows and no sound comes out though.

Aw! Mojo does that too - the meow with no sound, its so cute. He does it when he gets excited, like when he knows I am about to whip out the wand toy :)

@Ringypie Cosmo gets that from his Mum. Both Cleo and Ruby are the same and will paw at the inside of the covered litter trays for ages. Coco likes to leave her offering for everyone to see :Greedy
Coco also likes to let me know when it's bedtime. She will sit and stare at me intently and put one paw on my arm so I can't carry on with what I'm doing. She stays there until I give in to her wishes.
Cleo likes to stand on my dressing table and stare at the cat in the mirror :D She never does anything - just looks

Pippin ‘never’ meows. She only ever chirps like a little bird. Lol. I think I’ve heard her meow twice (she’s almost 18 months old and I’ve had her from 5weeks!) and both times I ran to her thinking something was wrong haha.

Ziggy is one who scratches all over the inside of the litter tray hood and outside it but he does also cover and kick litter everywhere.

Ziggy also every so often bolts along the back of the sofa and takes a flying leap off and onto the back of one of the dogs who is passing by lol. Thankfully don’t dogs don’t bat and eye at it, they’re used to him. He also randomly just runs up and swats them in the face and runs off again. He’s a terror. Lol.
Ziggy also lies around the house on his back with tummy and legs up, usually in the middle of the room or a door way, or a stair making it hard to pass.

Eevee is a cover-er in the litter tray :D

She also has mad five minutes (normally on an evening) where she'll razz around, she particularly likes running up and down the stairs at full pelt. I think it's because, before moving into our house, she has always lived in flats with OH, so never really seen stairs! In our house we have the attic converted so she has two sets of stairs and thinks they're very fun :)

Jasper gives covering a very good go, but it just ends up with no litter in the litter box and it all over the floor.... he’s being throughtful obviously and likes to keep me busy. When I walk into the main entrance of my flat building he somehow realises it’s me and meows and meows and meows until I get into the flat. He then proceeds to throw himself on the floor as if I’ve been gone months and stares at me until I get on the floor with him lol! I love this thread!!!

Every time some one walks up the main stairs in the building he thinks it’s someone coming to see him so he races to the doormat and waits! Bless him. we don’t get many visitors.

Sandy was a right litter-monster until he got onto wood (and now corn - Super Bentek) litter - clay stuff just went everywhere (and I mean everywhere.....!). Now he just doesn't dig anything in anywhere near as much - which is actually a lot easier than cleaning up after his excavations!

My Jasper's litter tray is covered and even since a tiny kitten, long before I ever brought him home I noticed he seemed to spend forever covering up his poo unlike the rest of his siblings!
He is OCD, when it comes to covering up and when he's done his business he can be in there for several minutes, covering and re-covering until he's absolutely satisfied and then going all the way around wiping the walls of the tray hood with his feet going like a digging rabbit!
Occasionally he does a real stinker and it's not uncommon for him to go back in again and re-do it all...

I'm now wondering if his obsessive behaviour is at all related to the fact that he was bullied by his siblings before I brought him home and that it was his way of trying to conceal his presence from them. For some strange reason he was the one they all picked on...maybe it was because he was mostly hand fed and too weak to defend himself against his much bigger siblings during play etc.
He was always the loner of the bunch and a bit like the lonely kid in the playground that no one ever wanted to play with or was bullied for being different!
I think that's what touched my heart so much about him but he's turned to be a gentle, charming, intelligent and healthy well adjusted cat who I love to bits!

Lorelei is convinced the back right hand corner of the bath is evil and needs to die. She jumps in there at nearly any opportunity (when it's empty of water, obviously, such as when she's supervising toilet time) and tries to claw it to death in a manner of which Freddie Kruger would be proud.

She's another proud member of the Litter Tray Trashers club, her preferred method being to dig through the entire litter content of the tray for several minutes, then spend five minutes scratching the tray walls and roof, then another five minutes scratching the outside of the entrance and the litter mat beyond. She also has a distinct aversion to leaving a freshly cleaned tray unsoiled, and it is now routine practice for me to clean the upstairs tray first, then the downstairs tray, then re-clean the re-soiled upstairs tray.

Oh, and whenever she jumps down from a height of more than about eighteen inches, she makes a noise that sounds as if she has landed on a waterlogged rubber duck with a prolapsed squeaker - hence one of her nicknames is 'Squeakles' ;)

And that's only part of it. Charlie, bless her, is relatively normal!

The strangest thing Annie and Bonny do is rallying.
We have parqueted floor everywhere. The girls race around like mad almost all the time and they know exactly when to stop and slide around the corners rallye style.

They also do that when 'going' to their food bowls: They race from the winter garden through the living room into the dining room and stop about 1 m in front of the bowls, sliding there the rest of the way.
If we put carpet onto the floors they would be deprived of a lot of fun.
