Just needing some advice on what to do
Recently bred my dog with a family friends dog- we agreed pick of the litter.
I lived in one area he lived in another he was letting me come to his area via lifts from family and friends and the whole time he drove!! he made it hard on meetings as he would only let his stud around my girl for 10 minutes maximum and then would take him home..
When it came to the day of the breeding he left him for 30 mins then took him back and I asked if he could let him come again for 1 hour as it wasn’t much time for them to both mate (their first time) he did and mating was a success.
I updated him with scan pictures - pregnancy pictures and her birth- sex of all puppy’s and colourings. The day after her birth he came to see them and I picked them up (just me) and showed him 1 by 1
I update with daily pictures but I get no reply’s
Now 4 weeks later they have still not decided which puppy they would like and I have other people ready to put deposit down for them. I’m also wanting to keep one for myself as I’ve grown to love them and I’ve had to wait 4 weeks to know if I can keep the one I like or that’s the one they want to
Chose. I offered for them to come view the pups again so they can pick but they have read the message and haven’t replied in nearly a week. What do I do here? I feel like they are taking the mick out of me really as I’ve had to do the puppy’s all myself since they was born and I’m having to wait to see if I can keep the one I like.

They’re your pups, you do with them what you like. Keep all correspondence between you as evidence in case he tries to take you to small claims/threaten to sue you.

It is generally considered better for the bitch to visit the dog on his home ground, more chance of success.
Do you have any written records of your agreement with him? I agree with the above, they are your pups,no-one elses without a written contract.

It wasn’t even his garden I had to use my family members garden !! In his area he made it really difficult for me I’m not fussed about him taking a puppy it’s just I have one I want to keep but I feel like he wouldn’t use me again if I went back on my word and I had pick of the litter over him.. or is this allowed? Can I take the pick or the litter before him I’m not sure?

I would send one final email asking him to choose a puppy, and give him a timeframe within which to do this: eg, 7days, 14 days or whatever.
Tell him that if he doesn’t do this then you’ll either pay him the price of a puppy or a stud fee, whichever you feel is fair, or alternatively you could pay him nothing as presumably you have no written contract and his dog (I guess) is an unproven (as in genetics or pedigree) stud.

Hi he’s a family friend so I am wanting to resolve this and I do what him to have pick of the litter but I feel cheeky telling him there’s one I want to keep if he also liked that one.. but this pup is a female I don’t want him taking her to try breed with his male

Ultimately if there was no written and signed contract over pick of the litter or stud fees, then it's up to you who takes your puppies. Was there a written contract? Or anything in writing at all?

As others have said, you can write to him with a deadline to respond, save this as well, and if still no response you will send him the agreed stud fee and rehome/keep whichever pups you want.

I would contact him and tell him you're about to begin taking deposits on the pups and need to choose one for yourself.

I would give him the option to take a stud fee, rather than a pup, if he's having doubts now about taking one.

He does not sound much of a friend and you apparently do not live in the same area so you do not have to worry about coming across him. I do not understand why you have not phoned him and discussed it with him. Messages are easy to ignore and easy to miss as well. If you have decided what pup you want to keep then that is your right. If you want to take deposits on other pups phone him up and ask him which, if any, pup he wants apart from the one you are keeping. If you really think he would breed the daughter back to her father then I would not let him have a pup and I cannot understand why you used his dog in the first place.

But, given the way his owner is behaving, I would not use his dog again.

If you even suspect he would mate the Father back to his Daughter, then he is not someone you want to deal with.
