Hi all,
i have been given half a dozen tins of pate cat food, but my puss has a couple of licks and then wont touch it again.
she tends to only eat the gravy or jelly of wet food.
does anyone have any tricks for them to eat the pate???
TIA :) x

Maybe try sprinkling some crushed freeze-dried treats (such as Thrive) on the top - although these can be expensive and you may not feel it is worth it if it's just this particular food you cat won't eat. My boys don't like the pate-type foods either. Previous threads about how to make a cat eat something it doesn't like suggest warming the food up a little, but this has never made any difference where we are concerned - I think because it's a textural thing rather than a taste issue.

Add a little warm water to make it into a gravy. Pate is better for them than most other kinds anyway. :)

Mix in some food that she does like. When my lot are being fussy, I find a small spoonfull of Felix does the trick.

Maybe a few bits of ham or cheese on top might help.

How about cutting one portion -to try - into tiny cubes? Bite size pieces may be more appealing and more manageable to woolf down :) maybe that will do the trick.

Totally agree with this, due to some health problems I add water to all of Alberts food now and I only very recently discovered that adding water to stuff he never used to eat works.

He wouldn't touch lily's kitchen food before but as I had some left I thought I'd try it with water and now he will wolf it down. It just seems to change the consistency which he obviously prefers.

I have tried mixing it in with other foods that they will eat (Gourmet Mousse is a good one for this) adding water, sprinkling stuff on top or most recently tough love.

Now I know they will eat it I just put the food down and walk away, if they don't eat it, tough. They walk away, someone else just eats it anyway so it is never wasted. The fussy cat always ends up eating their food in the end, especially if they are hungry.

I thought I would never get them to eat the pate foods but with a bit of perseverance and trickery they happily eat most of them. They are not keen on some of the drier ones but I find adding a bit of water helps along with rotating them with the softer ones.
