We need to ban heart stick euthanasia.
My beloved GSD died a horrific barbaric inhumane death fully CONSCIOUS by heart stick ,we need this banned worldwide as its still been done on our animals in shelters pounds and veterinary practices. Please educate for the safety off our pets .

Never seen this done in the UK. Here it's either an IV injection, or an intra-abdominal one. I've held several cats for the latter, none of them flinched. I think it's kinder as circulation is often poor in animals being euthanised which makes getting a needle in hard.

Suspect OP is in Ireland - not NI - which might be different. And obviously they are on a crusade.

Hi OrientalSlave it actually happens alot in the UK ,have been in contact with a dozen off them already and just spoke to a person. In Ayrshire Scotland which he got the veterinarian struck of and revoked his licence to practice because he done a heart stick on the pet fully Conscious

My Sister had a very old Cavalier.

When the Vet came out to put him to sleep, he was unable to find any viable vein, so he injected straight into the heart. The dog didn't react at all and passed peacefully.

In all my years of owning/rescuing/breeding/showing dogs, I have never heard of one being put down with the method described by the OP.

It is certainly not common in this Country.

Hi Rafa for someone who knows so much about dogs and thinks heart stick is painless I think you need to do some research, under the RCVS policy/guidelines about ici ( Heart stick the animal must be at a surgical level of anesthesia totally UNCONSCIOUS to preform sedation alone would not be acceptable,
Them policies are there for a reason.

@Lexi's Justice I've said elsewhere (because you have posted this on several forums) I'm afraid I'm not sure what your objective is. We can offer condolences and sympathy - and we do, of course; but that's not really helping you. If you believe there was malpractice, you need to speak to the veterinary practice or the regulatory body for where you live.

When my last dog was euthanised she was unconscious and very flat. The vet struggled to find a vein in her legs as they were so collapsed and did warn me that an intra-cardiac injection might be necessary as a last resort, but then managed to get venous access to perform the injection. I was agreaable yo the possibility of intr-cardiac injection under those circumstances as my little dog was unresponsive to any intervention and I believe would have been unaware. But it cerainly wasn't the death I would have wished for her.
The vet performing the procedure was so kind, gentle and respectful for which I was eternally grateful.
