do you charge to bathe and groom a newfoundland? I have heard so many varying times and prices, I don't know which is fair. One person told me the last one took her 13 hours because he was terribly matted, another reckoned about three. The mobile one I had out once charged £60 to do both of them, but never managed to get Ferdie in the van and so into the bath. He wasn't qualified either, so I could just as well do them myself with the hose pipe.

The last one I spoke to wanted £85 and said it was a days work. He is brushed regularly, though does have some matty bits, but I don't see where it would take all day. And that was without seeing him.

About 4 hours for them both depending on how well they behave in the bath and with the blaster. And I would charge about £30 each for a bath, dry and brush out.

I'll be watching this with interest - I've been quoted £65 just to bath Ozzy.

I've groomed him out myself but he won't walk upstairs so I can't get him in the bath and he's a bit smelly after so long in kennels. Damn hosepipe ban and foul weather means I can't do him outside myself

My bathroom is downstairs but I couldn't get either of them in the bath, and if I did I couldn't get them out again! I usually do Ferdie in the garden with the hose, but not till the weather is warmer. And It is incredibly difficult to get that bottom layer wet enough!

i'm a groomer for a big company our branch is in dewsbury and we charge £50 but not far away the same company but the birstall branch charges i think about £70ish and same company again but down london i think tend to charge around £100ish depends where you go we give around 3 hours for a newfoundland but if 2 from same family and 2 or 3 groomers available i would say 4 hours for 2 but we have all the blasters etc at work i wouldnt want to be doing a newfy in a mobile van but just my own preference :)
p.s tht price includes ears, teeth & any cutting where i work too

The first time I took Zak (Cocker Spaniel) to the groomers it took two hours, after that it was within the hour. Obviously a larger dog would take longer but I am not sure how long.

The cost for Zak was around £30.00. Again a smaller dog less time involved.

Believe it is pretty time consuming to do properly - they have to thoroughly brush first, then bath, then dry. Used to have a tibetan terrier and he was at the groomers for hours, some times cost around £25 others £40 depending on what his coat was like.

One thing after reading something on here recently about the poor spaniel that was badly burnt find out what sort of dryer they use

Well I won't be leaving him anyway. I still have to find one that will let me stay and is not upstairs!

I have never used em and never will our team believes strongly against the use of cabinet dryers I don't see the point as you get a better finish when brushing while drying

We have a few newfies and one it takes 3 of us and 5 hours he just doesn't sit still and is always knotty lol great fun though :)

I doubt the cabinet is big enough for Ferdie anyway, but no way would I let anyone do that. this is the thing though; how can they quote you a price over the phone and say it will be a day's work, when they have never seen the dog?

Apart from his bum end and under his arms, Ferdie is not too bad as I brush the rest of him every day and get the blaster out once a week at this time of year. Diva actually takes no time at all as her fur is not nearly so thick.

So I reckon saying £85 and it will take all day, she didn't really want to do him.

i dont know about other salons but we have a general price for breed e.g newfies £50 its the same price for any size newfy and any state they turn up in we just book out a decent amount of time and if its going to be longer we ask owners if we can ring them when they are done but we assess each dog individualy when they come in :)
