Hi all,

i depareately need to re seed my lawn this spring after its death by dog pee. i think the 5 tufts i have left is looking very sad. is there anything i need to be wary of when reseeding with a dog? sounds daft but my dog will eat ANYTHING and i have been wondering about grass seed cunsumption and any dangers this might present if he was to eat any, probably being overly cautious but any advice welcome. (perhaps astro turf is the way forward)

ah good to know thanks Lisalovelys.

Thanks Blitz i think doing it bit by bit until the seed has taken is the best idea as we dont have a huge garden and so restricting access to all of it would probably not be fair on him. thanks for the tip:) noe to find a temporary 6ft fence he cant jump:)

For the temporary fence - perhaps the metal mesh fences that they use around building sites would work for you? They are pretty high, and sturdy enough, and you can tie several sections together, Maybe ask on freecycle or see if you can borrow some from a company? not sure how expensive they would be though.

I had to look into this recently for a client and it wasnt horrifically expensive to rent if you cant get hold of any.

My mum swears the dog rocks work but then she doesnt have a permanent dog

My grandad just used to keep an old pop bottle full of water and go out and water it down if he saw the dog go but that seems a bit  too

Don't sow grass yet it won't grow and you will be wasting your time and money, it's to cold and to wet.

Personally I would turf it. You can turf it whenever but it will take longer to root now as it's cold.

Turf will root within 1-2 weeks where grass seed can take anything up to 8 weeks to thicken enough in this weather. :thumbup1:

Where are you from I can get miles of this stuff :D
Ah thanks!but After discussion with oh tonight thinking astro turf might be the way forward! We put brand new turf down just before getting our dog about 18months ago. Worst move ever!!! Good point bout turf rooting quicker though. Would be a much quicker option. Although Astros not my first choice it might be better on the wallet in the long run.i would just deck or patio the lot but the fussy habits of my dog toilet habits prevents me from doing that!
