Im sure im not the only one who has dogs that bark when they hear the door or bark when someone comes into the house.

But...

Does anyone know how to get them to stop??????

I know a dogs job is to bark but its hard hearing what the person at the dor wants with the dogs having a conversation

In my case, people rarely knock at the door so it's a novelty for Ollie, so I'm planning on ringing the doorbell, and if he barks, say "ah-ah" or "quiet" and put him in another room if he continues. If you repeat this over and over again, it shouldn't be a novelty anymore and he should learn that when the doorbell is rung, he needs to be quiet, otherwise he gets put away from us.

(I didn't know you got another dog, Hermione, she's adorable :D)

My mum and sister have just gone out. I have told them when they come home to knock on the door. Im going to tell dogs quiet and when they are click and treat, They all know what the clicker is. I will then go and let them in and if they start barking close the door and repeat.

Mum has also said several times she will pop out just so she can knock and i can keep doing this til they hopefully learn hahaha

Spaniel mad,
You can use Positive reinforcement. Make a trigger word to let your dog know that he must stop on barking. If he stops, give him some rewards like food or something.. Some dogs also bark excessively because they are lonely. This is somewhat associated to boredom but a little different. Well exercising will help your dog relieve stress. You can walk your dog at least once a day.

Thank you. They all get at least one long run a day. I got a can full of stones and shook it when mum knocked the door. Took them about 5 mins to calm down so I gave them a treat. Then 2nd time it only took about 2 minutes for them to realize if they stopped they got a treat
