So they can get used to their new territory and get over the stress of moving, if you let them out the day you moved they would most likely try to get back to their original home, it's better to be safe than sorry.
I normally keep mine in for 2 weeks when moving house, you think you're going to have it bad - we're moving this year and have 18 cats that are mostly farm cats so are going to be driven nuts with them all in!!!!!

 

I might have shut him in the shed by the time 2 weeks are up! :lol:

Hopefully manage to get a dog run with lid up and sorted so the cats can have some outside time without being on a lead, they hate that.

 

Yeah, it is so they get used to where they are! 2 weeks it is usually. You can put a little of butter on their paws just before they go out, so when they do get out they stop to wash it off and then can look around and get to know their surroundings. Thats what I heard any way. Never tried it myself. But it might work! Hope your move goes well!

 

I also heard that putting a wind chime outside the door where the cat flap will be at the start of the 2 weeks helps because they recognise the sound and can use it to collect their bearings?? Might try that too x
