Had to say goodbye to our Dexter (Loncoon Dynamite Dexter) yesterday. His seventeenth birthday was on Sunday! That's a great age for a pedigree Maine Coon... But it doesn't make it any easier does it. He had an amazing life roaming the wildflower meadows chasing butterflies in the summer, and curled up near the fire in the winters. He was my constant companion since day one and would curl up next to me every night on the sofa when the wife went to bed. We watched so much trashy TV over the last 17 years. My hand would fall naturally to his head and his purrs helped me though both happy and sad times.

Over the last year he started to loose weight and condition, and his arthritis was staring to limit his mobility. We knew he was getting towards the end, but you never want to let go do you? He had a great last summer sunbathing in the favorite spots. We we honored to be owned by him.

He spent his last morning out in the garden in the last summer sun, and at the vets as he peacefully passed, he was still in a sunbeam.

I'm a 57 year old bloke, but found myself bawling in the kitchen this morning looking at his food bowls and not getting the usual chirps and moans about being late again.

Run free over the bridge big man...

Dexter was undoubtedly a beautiful boy and very magnificent. It's heartbreaking to lose a cat; they are part of the family, especially when they have such a big personality.
I'm very sorry for your loss.
Run free, Dexter. xx 💖
