it might also be because she is a small dog and with you towering over her, she may be nervous of you.

Hi there I never read your previous posts. Can I ask the following?

1. Did you get your puppy from a reputable breeder?
2. Did you see the pup with Mum so you got an idea of the Mums temperament?
3. Have you spoke tot he breeder re your dog biting to ask advise (most good breeders are happy to help)

If all else fails, visit the vet and see if there are any underlying health issues.

hi we bought her from a lady a couple of streets away from us. The father is kc registered and the mother is a pedigree but they never got her registered but we did see the mother with her pups and she was very calm and wasnt bothered that we were handling the pups we even tooks our two kids who are 1 and three and the mother had no problem with them either so would say the mothers temperament was really good. My puppy is 16 weeks and have read on a website that they she is probably still teething so is this why she is always mouthing at us

Hi I have the same problem with my Springer pup but he is 7 mths old!! He can sometimes get aggresive when he has something he is not supposed to have and if you try to take it he will growl and snap at you!! Also he can have a funny 5 mins when he runs around like a tazmanian devil and he will lunge at me, I have loads of bruises up my arm!! He dosn't seem to do it to anyone else though!!

My 6 month old pup is just the same. Every now and then she will just take off and run round the garden like a nutter, she goes so fast she slides out of control when she goes round a bend she tends to pounce on our spaniel rather than nip at me but exactly the same a total loon for 5 mins!!

She is still a bit nippy but will stop as soon as u say no, but shes nipped my nose a few times, she so fast she will be sat there on ur lap all nice n quiet then suddenly jump and she jumps so high she never misses! but its getting less as she gets older. you just have to remember even when its funny and its easy to laugh when they are being daft, you have to repremand or they won't ever know its not just a game.

 

Do you shout at him for this ??? its not always a good idea but rather a strong deep no , it will sink in eventually thoes puppy teeth are so sharp i remember looking like a pin cushion when daisy was a pup last year . You must teach your children not to tease the dog either or cause it to become frustrated such as if they are eating food and waving it around this may cause the pup to jump for the food and as a result catch one of the little ones . Maybe try putting him in another room for a few mins to calm down by himself then allow him back in when he is calmer if he starts to undertand that bitting gets him excluded he may think twice ( like a time out ) remove him from your company .

 

We always put him in his crate till he has calmed down but if he comes out and does it again he goes straight back in!! All I can say is the best thing we ever done was buy a crate lol!! He sleeps in it all night no problems!! We have also changed his food as he was on Bakers and was told it was like giving your dog a bag of skittles He is now on Burns adult food, so fingers crossed he may calm down a bit!!

 

I am so glad I am not the only one i thought it was just me!!!

my german shep pup is only 8 weeks so sounds like i got this prob for a while!! i will try the tips i have read in here tho thanks everyone!!

Firstly, I don't think for one moment your dog is biting, she is playing, seeking attention, nothing more, you may have think you have sucessfully trained her not to do this - but pups like children forget. Think of a child seeing an icecream van and running across the road, they forget all you have told then when their minds are elsewhere, pups/young dogs do the same when they get excited, I do not see this as a major problem, just a habit that needs breaking as quickly as possible there is plenty written on the subject and many ways of discouraging it, i do not know what methods you have tried but a little reading should bring many solutions.

This is nothing more than normal, healthy, puppy play biting that is being allowed to get out of hand.

I think the problem is you are trying too many methods and not giving them enough time. I would expect one method (have a google for 'The Bite Stops Here' ir look on the other threads for it) to take about 5 weeks or so to work.

Absolute consistency is the key to dog training. If you worry about he pup with your daughter, stricter supervision is needed.
