I’m just curious what your average monthly costs are for food, litter and other essentials for your cats.

I have two cats, Luna & Nova and this is approximately how much I spend:

Cat food:
Zooplus: approx £70 per month (30 day supply) various wet foods.

Treats:
Approx £10 per month (thrive & dreamies)

Cat Litter:
Super Benek from Zooplus 2x 25l bags a month- £14.99 each (£29.98)

Additional extras:
Feliway Friends: £13.49 (30 day supply)
YuDerm: £18 (lasts about 25 days)
Insurance: £41 Per month

Total for the month: approx £183.00.

I’d like to see how others compare so I can see if I’m spending too much.

Thanks :)

Lottie

Not sure I really want to total everything up but...

5 cats

Insurance £80 per month roughly, combination of pet plan and bought by many
Litter £60 - two bags of worlds best
Food £150 - smilla, scrumbles, felix and then random rotation of things
Feliway £30 - three pack refills

treats and toys £30 - this fluctuates though so not every month...

So probably around £350 per month.

This year by entering pics of the tonks in competitions and stuff I’ve won about £700 worth of stuff (including loads of thrive cat food). So they do contribute towards the costs :D

Mine are pretty cheap at the moment as they're eating less.
For two indoor adult cats for a month.

Food:
£40 (can be upto £70 if they're have an additional snack each day)

Litter:
£15.99 30l bag of greenwoods cat litter

I occasionally buy treats, toys, scratching posts, flea and wormer but wouldn't know how much that costs to hand as its not with any regularity.

We have a special account for the cats which we put £50 per cat for general costs plus £15 each for the vet health plan (it used to be half that price until recently)

It's hard to say specifically how much we spend each month as we just order when we run low which maybe is every 3 weeks or so however having a hungry kitten and switching two litter trays to clumping litter means things are all a bit out of routine at the minute. I've always estimated it at roughly £30 A month per cat for food and £10 each for litter.

For the £50 each we usually build up a bit of 'savings' each month from that once the food and litter has been ordered, this usually covers vet fees and any extra bits and pieces we need to buy. However the kitten has blown all the extra built up with her vaccination, neuter, and microchip feeder! But that's an indication of how much extra we had built up there over time.

Hmm. My friends are all horrified when I tell them my Pumpkin budget, and though I have tried to cut it back, I won't compromise on their food quality. Bear in mind they are big cats with matching appetites:

Monthly Zooplus food plus litter £200
Insurance monthly £50
Basic vet fees for vaccs, Milbemax, Teddy needing help with a bad mat (illness or injury would be extra) £20

So about £270 per month. They are inundated with toys/treats/blankets etc at Xmas and birthdays, and I have unopened bags held in reserve for them, so that's not really a monthly cost.

Hi, I have three cats.

Monthly insurance: £24 per month for all three
Vet plan: £45 per month
Cat litter: £30/40 per month
Feliway: £35 per month (3 plug ins)
Food: £70-90 every other month zooplus order. This is Royal Canin fussy eater biscuits, Royal Canin kitten biscuits, Royal Canin kitten wet food, Felix as good as it gets pouches

Then other costs such as cat fountain filters, treates, replacement toys etc which I don't really budget for or record.

1 cat but a very special one (Meeko's description not mine ;))
£40 a month on food (fussy sod )
£10 treats (some used as incentives to get him to eat )
£8 Bioglan probiotics
£12 Famotidine (IBD)
£30 Insurance
£5 litter Greenwoods a bag lasts approx. 3 months
£10 Extra's toys, etc
He also has 2 x 6 month health checks a year £80
I have probably missed somethings out but on average that works out at around £125 a month......
I think it is time he went out to work ;):)

Hmmm. One cat here.

Food: £40 (min! Total guess as I go through phases where a lot is binned as he refuses it, so some months more)
Litter: £5
Treats: £5
Insurance: £34
Vet plan: £11 (inc flea and worming, vaccinations, plus two check ups a year)
Pet Remedy diffusers: £20

So without his medications guesstimate of £115 a month.

Medications: £200 (We pay £115 excess + 20% for each condition). Obviously lots of other costs too for his conditions but I won’t include them in the monthly.

I’m so glad when we adopted Oscar the lady from the rescue didn’t persuade us to take two cats. I’d be living on dust!

2 cats - raw fed with the chicken being organic non-GMO Project Verified (other meats not so easy to source organic non GMO) approximately $200 a month including supplements, egg yolk and pre-mixes. (supplements include probiotics, egg yolk lecithin, s.boulardii)

Mazy cat's Denosyl is about $30.00 a month.

Litter - Well a 40 pound bag is $18.99 and lasts about 3-4 months, so litter is about $5 a month.

Vet - Mazy cat goes twice a year for check up and blood work and anal gland expression about $200 a visit. Queen Eva goes once a year and as she is 10 now will be getting blood work annually, so her visits will be just slightly less than that, once a year. So vet visits break down to $50 a month.

Replacement cardboard scratchers - about $50 a year.

Grand total is $290 a month give or take. I usually just round up to $300 a month when I'm budgeting.

Edit - I forgot to list the cost of the freezer bags for storing portioned meat, not to mention the dish soap expense. But all in all, it adds up to about $300 a month.

I'd like to see how others compare so I can see if I'm spending too much.
I'm not sure what you mean by "spending too much"? Too much by whose measure? :)

I’m slightly reassured by some of these figures, tbh! This is something I try not to think about too much. I’m sure I’ve missed a lot out and I find it hard to calculate some things when I buy them in bulk but randomly. Food is difficult to work out as I feed raw and they eat a mix of meat plus supplement and commercial prepared raw. I’ve calculated the cost of the former for a month, then added £15 a month as I feed quite expensive pre-made stuff. Don’t know whether I’ve under or over estimated. I’ve also included insurance but vet fees over and above that, apart from vaccinations. As they’ve both had a booster recently I know the cost of that. Mosi has a high excess due to his age but luckily he hasn’t had any major illness so far. For 2 indoor cats.

Food - raw with the odd tin thrown in now and again - £58
Treats - £10
Litter (oko cats best - bought in bulk 40l at a time) - £8
Vaccinations - £7.50
Insurance - £80 (ouch!)
Flea/worm (not done regularly as they’re indoor cats) - £2
Total = £165.00 Per month

I’ve probably missed something important.
On top of that are cattery fees if I go away - £10 a day, vet fees excess (not much to date touch wood) and miscellaneous items like new litter tray, supplements (they don’t take any regularly), toys etc. I don’t buy them much in the way of toys and cat trees now as they have cat trees and climbing posts crammed into every corner, and more beds than they will ever use. Same with toys - they have loads but I do buy them a few more at Christmas.

I've never added up what it costs me, but I suspect I'm paying less for 5 cats. I don't buy treats, or Feliway, or YuDerm, or insurance. One of my girls needed a section recently. I was lucky that it was during normal vet hours and it cost me about the same as a year's insurance.

I do feed some dry, and the boys outside have wood pellet litter in BritPet trays which is very economical.

Gosh, I never really calculated it to be honest ...
Insurance- £25.77 a month
Food & treats- zooplus orders~ £90 last for about 3 months
Litter- Oko lasts forever so probably <£5 a month
Yearly vet visit for check up & booster~ £80
Plus random pet shop/supermarket food purchases as I just love getting new stuff for her to try.
And the odd bed that she'll definitely like (NOT!)
She's worth every penny :D
