Memory foam mattress topper

I am a side sleeper and was convinced I had damaged my rotator cuff and had arthritis in my hip until I’ve been sleeping on a memory foam mattress and all my pain has gone. Sadly this is my last night before I return to a pocket spring mattress so I’d like to buy a topper to see if I feel better. But I am worried I will get hot in the summer. Any reassurances or recommendations?

I have a Silentnight 5cm memory foam topper that I bought from Argos a few years ago ….. I bloody love it! I suffer from lower back problems (prolapsed discs) & it has been a massive help for being comfortable when going to sleep.

I'm the sort of person who gets hot very easily but it hasn't made much difference at all for me tbh as that was an initial worry of mine. If you do buy one though it does take a while for the chemical smell to disappear so if you can try to 'air' it another room that's well ventilated as it can be quite strong when unpacked.

We bought a Tempur mattress eight years ago - more than I would ever consider spending but I do have spine problems and arthritis.

In every respect bar one it was the best thing I ever did and I simply cannot now sleep on an ordinary mattress. The downside as you mention....it is horribly, horribly warm to sleep on and last summer was a nightmare.

After trying several mattresses I ended up getting a sprung Hypnos mattress which was too firm( hip and shoulder pain) so invested in a 3" memory foam topper and now I can't do without one !
It seems the perfect combination of support and comfort.
It is warm in the summer but when I tried the mattress without the topper it also seemed to get quite warm.
I decide the comfort is worth being a bit hotter and just use a sheet over me in the summer.
I don't know what the Dunelm toppers are like ,I got mine from Bodymould mattresses and it has lasted 3 years, but not cheap.
My neighbour got one from here

It seems fine and much cheaper.
Good luck with finding a comfy solution.

I have a memory foam mattress topper at our holiday cottage, mention that as I only sleep on it maybe a few weeks out of the year.

I didn't really get on with it until I put an extra mattress protector over it, I've no idea why but this made a huge difference to the quality of my sleep but it did.

I already had the fitted zipped sheet that was supplied with it, then a fleecy mattress cover on it (I use it mainly in the winter months), and now a normal fitted slightly padded mattress protector and its perfect.

Can't remember where we got it (dh ordered it online) but it wasn't cheap £150 12 years ago. The frugal me would rather suffer for a few weeks than dump £150 :D

The topper was bought for our use not for guests, me being fussy I wanted our own "bed". It's a job of work to get it in my lock cupboard lol

Thank you so much everyone. A client who forgot to pay me, paid up, so I bought myself a Dorma topper and it's bliss! I agree @westie~ma that frugal me was prepared to suffer but I woke up on Saturday with so much hip pain after two weeks of being okay that it was still there when I paid for it! It's been on the lawn on a rug degassing (what a word!) and I felt much better last night. I've kept the old topper for heatwaves in case it gets too hot in the summer.

Much thanks for advice, it was helpful in deciding what to do.
