Hi, I was wonderijg if you could advise, How much exercise should an adult Labrador have each day?
I find this a lot, I have mates who work Labs and they'll keep on the go all day, I also know a few people who have beautiful show types, smashing dogs but they just dont seem to have the same drive, I'm not sure if it's breeding or lifestyle. They're all different, my two are plodders, and only run around if there's someone else to run around with, or if I take a tennis ball out for them to fetch. It can be down to breeding as well, although it's a generalisation, and obviously some dogs won't fit this, working bred dogs I've found, tend to be able to go all day as adults, not surprising really as it's part of what they were bred for. Show/pet bred Labs I've come across would rather have a snooze for at least part of the day, my two are snoring away as I type.
I'm really sorry, I must have missed that, I wouldn't deliberately ignore anyone.Sometimes, I don't think it's either as such.
My eldest if a mix of show / pet / working lines - as a youngster she would keep going all day and can still give the youngsters a run for their money now.
Her daughter's sire is fully showbred - and she is very chilled -but very steady and a keen retriever.
Her daughter's sire (so grand-daughter to the eldest) is WIRED - I've never known a dog like her - I thought it was the rather prolific working lines behind mum coming through - until I met a half sister from solid show lines - she's just been moved on to a full working home - because her skill and stamina is nothing short of incredible - the two girls are like peas in the pod - but there's no working breeding behind her mum to 'blame' - so this has come from bona fide solid showlines including a number of American show lines.
They look like showbred dogs but with the mindset of a working dog - absolutely no question about it.
And Pete - I know I've asked you this before to no avail - do you know of any working trainers around your area you could recommend?
