Hi Everyone,

This is my first post so here goes-
I have 4 month old King Charles Cavalier spaniel who I must admit has been a very fussy eater from day one. He is fine with eating the wet (tinned) food but this gives him a poorly tummy but if you try him with dry food he will not even entertain eating this (even a mixture of wet/dry food) so clearly not a fan of dry foods. The recent hot weather has done little to increase his appetite also. Can anyone recommend any dry foods to try, could we even give our dog fresh, cooked chicken?

Yours view would be appreciated.

Regards :001_unsure:

My 4 month old king charles cav x toy poodle is exactly the same - if he did decide to eat the tinned food he would eat it too quickly and get a dodgy tummy, and only eats the dry food if he's ravenous or is being fed it by hand. However I did find that if you put the dry food into a kong toy and smear a small amount of peanut butter (or something equally delicious) over the end he will at least have a good nibble at it :) I feed my pup in his crate, and when he sees me coming with a peanut butter and dry food kong he jumps straight into his crate and waits for it :)

I have a cav myself and every cav owner i've ever meet has said the same they are greedy but fussy sods. In fact when my mum was younger she had one and he would even turn up his nose at fresh steak or lamb chops I kid you not whilst the family where given stew due to not having alot of money.

They will be fussy little sods if you allow it. Since yours is only young you have hope of nipping it in the bud so to say. Fresh chicken is great but not every day it doesn't have all the nutrients that dogs need and at such a young age its mega important they are getting correct balance.

I know how you feel my cav would only eat Wainwrights wet food and even then it was only after she knew nothing else was on offer. I tried changing her on dry but she turned her nose up to almost everything. However I did find that she likes small bite kibble such as Fish4dogs Small Bite, Eden (really loved Eden though its expensive) and Applaws.

With it being a puppy you can get alot of sample packs. I know fish4dogs do a puppy one for free (well they did). You just have to join up for puppy club for free and they send you out stuff for free.

I think you just have to be strict and if your dog isn't eating the food on offer take it away after 5 minutes until next meal time. They will soon get the message. Just bloody hard because they are such beggers and who can resist those big chocolate eyes.

I feed mine raw and it was the best thing i've done. No more fussing about she loves it and also helped with her health problems.

What food you feeding at the moment?
