Ok, so he's loving his chunks of meat with Felini Complete but I am confusing myself as to how much I should be giving him. It says on the website:

A fully grown cat weighing 4.5 kg requires approx. 130 g of meat spread out over 2-3 meals. Mix 65 g of meat in with 0.8 g of Felini Complete (flat spoon) and 2 tbsp of water.
For the preparation of larger amounts give 12.5 g of Felini Complete with 1 kg of meat.

Dave weighs 2.2kg currently. He doesn't ONLY eat chunks with Felini throughout the day. Example, this morning he had a small can of Grau because I was half asleep and not wanting to prep raw meat. He might also have a meal from Honeys instead as one of the meals during the day.

So would it make sense at the moment if I gave him 65g of meat for a meal (this is roughly how much he eats for one meal anyway) that I would mix with it 0.4g of Felini Complete? So, half a scoop per meal?!

Would that work out alright over the day? He still has four meals at the moment. So potentially, if he had all four with Felini Complete then that would be 1.6g of Felini throughout the day although it's more likely only two or three of the meals would be chunks with Felini.

Hope that makes sense!

If it is possible, it might be easier to mix up 1kg at a time thus ensuring the amount added is correct.

I do this with mine - work to 1kg weights. You could do a batch and then split it into however many meals you would make from that and freeze them.

Having four cats, I freeze in 1kg batches but you could divide it into 2 days worth (saves on the remembering to defrost hassle) of feed sizes for Dave.

Just a wee suggestion.....

No. You need to add 0.8G to 65G of meat. That's the correct supplementation. it doesn't matter if he has more than 2 spoonfuls a day if he's eating more meat.
That's right. It doesn't matter how much meat he eats each day, every 65g of it should have 0.8g of felini added. I still recommend adding 1.0g per 65g however to chicken or pork cuts with a high P level because this will result in the correct Ca:p ratio.

Would this same recommendation apply to turkey? As it is a turkey raw that I feed with either pig or lamb kidney added.

No, I would not up the dose for that mix. It's hard to be exact because we only seem to have data on US domestic animals and I don't know if the same ratios apply to UK animals. It's the best data I can find though. Based on this:

Show Foods

...the P levels and turkey are quite a bit lower than in chicken.

Thank you. :)

It is a very fine powder. It forms a suspension in liquid, ie does not dissolve, so don't even try. It is best applied directly to the meat. It has a very strong smell that to my nose is like animal fat. Your cats will notice that it is there. I advocate adding tiny amounts to their regular food at first then increasing the dose over time (so that they learn to associate the smell with food). I think that dumping it at full dose on meat for their first meal could result in rejection. All of our kittens would now eat it on its own now so, done carefully, it can be very palatable.

Whoops!!!!! I added 8.5 per kilo to the first batch of raw that I did (using this product) and the whole lot was hoovered up.

So on the 2nd batch I went for broke, stuck in the full 12.5 as recommended and that gets hoovered up too!!!

In fact, I am now struggling to get the Posse to eat any tinned food as they would all rather have the raw.

Also, just to say, I mix the Felini in a glass with a small amount of water. It doesn't disolve but it does make mixing it in evenly a LOT easier. :)

Thats great. I went slowly because I heard about reports on PF of it not being attractive. Mine really do like it. They would actually opt for meat with felini rather than meat on its own.

Mine love it too. Just wish it wasn't so expensive. It adds ÂŁ1.25 to every KG of food!
Indeed!! :(

Or even if they did a bigger tub. I only get two batches out of one which is a pain in the hearse.

Thank goodness I get my meat so cheap otherwise they'd be back on the tins - like them or not!!!!

This is me now - back on the tins - I can't be sure about anything anymore raw wise - so they will get a bit of everything (expect dry) - a bit of NI a bit of Nutriment, a bit of Woldsway, a bit of chunks out of Tescos, a bit of wet, etc. It will balance out over all and I won't worry.

The posse have taken to the raw SO well that it is a struggle to get them to eat the tins now and I really want to feed a tin / raw combo to cover all bases.  :D

I suppose I should look on it as a compliment that they would rather eat their momma's home-cooked food!!! :D :D

Oh well done MB :dita: :dita:
So come on then - do tell us the secret. What exactly is going into these batches thats going down so well- are you mincing the meats or chopping or a combi.

I know bones is better BUT success like this with Felini is not to be scoffed at :ihih:

Nothing special honest.....

Turkey thigh muscle meat, fresh turkey hearts - approx 70g, 5% kidney & Felini.

All minced up. They don't like chunks.

A small splosh of salmon oil when defrosted & a sprinkle of Fortain all mixed up with some bottled water.

At feeding time it's a dollop of raw in each bowl, more water added to make a 'mince & gravy' type consistency and then two whiskas anti-hairball biscuits crushed over the top.

That be it!!!!

Sounds delicious:devil::dita::devil::dita::devil:

Turkey - esp thigh - is quite high in tryptophan which helps keep em nicely laid back. I often fed it for supper when I had the two kitties - made for a peaceful night :p

Really??? I'll make a point of passing that bit of info onto the posse. I think they may have by-passed this bit of knowledge. :D

OH works for a turkey company so it is good fresh meat, easily available at cost price. Hence, they get it rather a lot. Like all the time . :D

I do add some pork on occasions and am looking to source a good butcher to get try them with some rabbit. They don't like beef too much so I won't be bothering with that.

Methinx the posse may know a lot more than I do about how science works.
  ;)

Still its really good nutrition for em.

I'm toying with the idea of whether keep swapping raw and cooked is ok for the digestion ... or whether it should really be an either or. Always something new to ponder.
