Hi everyone, I know this question has been asked before but the results I found we’re quite old, and I’m interested to know what’s the most up to date ‘best grain free food’ there is.

A little background, I have three cats. One is completely healthy, one is allergic to grain free food and we know this from eliminating other ingredients and through testing at the vets - she blows up the like a balloon every time she eats grain food! It’s a bit shocking, she can go from a trim kitty to a pregnant looking one! My other fur baby has Crohn’s disease, and we’ve found grain free food really helps limit his flare ups.

We have tried a few brands over the past 2 years. We started with Almo nature’s daily menu which was good but they went off it, surprise surprise! Then we moved to Lily’s kitchen, unfortunately Lily’s kitchen has been sold to a big brand and the quality has majorly decreased and my cats know it! So now I’m on the hunt again. I’m considering Applaws new grain free range, but of course this is quite costly for three cats that are on a wet food diet with only less than a handful of dry food as a treat each day.

So I’m wondering if anyone has any other recommendations please? I’m not interested in finding the cheapest option, as that isn’t always the healthiest. I’m just wondering if there better options than what I have considered so far?

Just to add, we already use cosma’s grain free soup as their supper before bed, so I don’t want to use this in the day too as they will quickly get bored!

Thank you in advance!

Edit - Our kitties will still eat some of the Lily’s kitchen organic range, so I’m looking for food to add into the mix to keep them happy and not getting bored!

Thank you so much! We have tried raw food before and whilst they loved it at the beginning, they didn't last long before they turned up their noses. There wasn't enough variety in the brand we used I think. They're also incredibly picky about texture, so I've never been sure whether it's worth trying something along the lines of feringa and bozita! Oh the fussiness!

Applaws is not complete cat food for all i know, ive read about this quite a lot in last couple of days as my kitten loves it and devours it every time but feeding only applaws won’t give them all nutrients they need and I believe same goes for most of Cosma flavours.

I feed my kitten Wild freedom as a basis for now (although for look out for something else as he’s getting a bit fussy about texture) which is grain free, available on zooplus.
it’s good quality with high content of meat, they have complete food in tins 200g and 400g as well as some complementary small tins of pure muscle meat which would be great as a treat. They have good flavour variety too.

Sorry I didn't explain that I wasn't looking to replace Lily's kitchen entirely. They will now only eat the organic range, which is fine by me! So I was looking to introduce applaws once a day. They are fed three times during the day, and then soup at night. So the applaws would only replace one of their main meals. Thank you so much for the recommendation, I'll definitely have a look into it! Can I ask what the texture is like please?

Hi there, so as far as textures goes-

Feringa - smooth pate type texture, interesting flavour combos!
Bozita - more typical chunks in sauce/jelly
Catz - chunkier pate type texture, bit more expensive but Milo loves this one!
Avf - smooth pate, currently available in home bargains for 39p/100g!!
Almo holistic ham - smooth almost airy light mousse, mine love ham
