Automatic feeders

So I was wondering if an automatic cat feeder would be something worth investing in. I've got two cats and normally they get wet food in the morning and in the evening, and there's always dry food available.

Occasionally (not often at all!) I might be away for the weekend so my two cats would need to be alone for a couple of nights. They've been fine before if I/we've left them unendless supplies of dry food (and of course water, they have a drinking fountain) and put some wet food for the night (and an ice pack underneath to make it last fresh as long as possible), so they would only miss one full day of wet food.

Automatic feeders seem handy but it seems that they're not really designed around multiple cats. And buying two, or even one, just to try it out is a bit expensive, so I thought I'd ask here before making a decision. I'm just not sure if it's worth it, since they would be fine even with just dry food. Nutrition shouldn't be the biggest issue, but I'm still intrigued...

So what do you think? What kind of experiences do you have with automatic feeders (with multiple cats especially) and would you recommend getting one (or two)? Which models have you tried?

I have 2 cats and one of these;

Trixie Automatic Food Dispenser TX2 at zooplus

I work some long days, so I tend to feed them in the morning before I go to work, then they get an auto feed at lunch, another for dinner and then I feed them again before bed.
This feeder works great, and it comes with a couple of ice packs to keep the food cool.
It does only really hold enough for a day's food. If I was going to go away overnight I'd have to rethink the situation.

Hope that helps.

Thank you. You said you have one for two cats. I read a review on zooplus.fi that the two bowls can't be opened at the same time, is that true? So do your two cats eat from one bowl at a time? Would imagine the greedier getting all the food then :( It's not really clear from the description, it only says that the two separate timers "allows" for separate feeding times, but I can't imagine why you couldn't set them to open up simultaneously.
