Asking for advice and then ignoring it...

I don't understand why people ask for advice and then either completely ignore it or say no you're wrong, i belong to quite a few cat and animal related forums and fb pages and i seem to be seeing it so often, just yesterday i saw someone (not here) asking for advice because their cat was vomiting constantly and when they were told to take her to the vet they said oh no she isnt that bad, when told she need's to see a vet they replied i'll take her next week if she's still doing it and then when someone told them she needed to do something now her reply was don't tell me what to do..but she had asked people what she should do !!!...and another who was told the photo of their cat showed a large rodent which would be painful and needed vet treatment and her answer was no its not that.
I understand the costs of vets is high, i understand its not always easy to just 'pop' to the vets but i don't understand why people ignore advice that could help. I've even seen a post where someone said i think my cats just been hit by a car will he be ok left alone because i'm going out tonight...and no they hadn't taken him to the vet at all...and they never updated which is another thing that annoys me.
I've asked my fair share of questions and shared photos of my cats to ask for advice, i can honestly say i've never delayed a vet visit until someone commented on a picture, no one has to tell me to take my cats to the vet,if i think they need a vet, they go...and they probably go more than they need to, i am paranoid of missing something that could be serious...my motto is always if in doubt see a vet...i know that needs work, it doesn't even rhyme :D
Ok, rant over...
Sorry

I used to be a pet forum junkie, belonging to many. However it was things like this, as you stated above, and the constant "my cat is pregnant what should I do" threads, that finally has caused me to drop out of almost all of them. I just can't take the worry over unknown animals any more. People want quick magical fixes, they want to be told "everything will be all right" even though it is clear that it won't be.

I know how you feel, not animal related but at our Agility club one of the younger women was buying a house with her boyfriend and asked one of the other members who lived local to where they'd seen a house they liked, what the area was like, the answer was 'don't buy there, it's a rough area' she replied 'no it's not, we have the field out the back' the local replied 'yes, all the ne'er do wells congregate there, please don't think about buying it' again the reply was 'your wrong' they bought the house and 18 months later they're moving because it's such a bad area.

Why ask advice if you're not going to take it or like the answers.

I only post to try to help cats in need or to provide requested information (plus the occasional pic!) Sometimes what I say is welcomed and sometimes it is ignored. If I can help some cats that is the most I can ask but I do worry about the others. Having said that, let's face it, we could be anybody and some of the advice given on some topics can be pretty awful. (This is often how threads deteriorate into arguments long after the OP has disappeared. We always feel we need to correct inaccuracies and so it goes on.....and on.) A forum is not much different from communication with our fellow human beings generally, fraught with difficulty and misunderstanding!

I couldn't agree more, if I can be bothered to offer advice, often with links, it would be nice to get a response. It's so annoying when the advice is ignored or thrown back at you, I sometimes don't even bother.

Daily occurrence for me - lots of people ignore advice. Especially regarding dental treatment.
I was going to like this but changed my mind. I find this heartbreaking. At least two people who have had my cats have tortured them by refusing to have dental work that they or a vet (or both) said was necessary. I thought one of my owners was simply callous and the other insane but to think that is multiplied many times is unforgiveable especially when you think what a difference a dental makes to a cat who was in pain. Two Oriental cats came in to rescue before Christmas with concerns over their temperaments. All they needed was lots of love and a dental each and now they are happy in their new homes.

Completely agree :(
I find it particularly hard on the health forum. I try to be diplomatic but most of the time people just need to be told it's a vet they need and not a forum. Usually that is not what they want to hear so they then disappear. I then worry about the cat for a while afterwards.
Prime example.

I think i will have to restrict the groups and forums i go to, it's started to get to me so much, i have sleepless nights worrying about other peoples cats, people who never bother to update so my mind goes into overdrive...
and the stupidity of some people amazes me, there was a lady on facebook who said its her cats human right to be able to have babies, when i pointed out her cat didnt actually have any human rights that it was her job to do the right thing and spay her cat i was litterally called a monster for wanting to take her cats future family away...so i'm giving up...at least for tonight!

I've decided that there are just a lot of idiots and trolls out there...none on PF though ;)
