I wrote on this forum a few weeks ago asking about breeds because I was hoping to get a dog but then my OH said "No". However now he has had a change of mind (or heart?) and has said I can get a puppy after all! We have decided on a female Jack Russell - the small type, not the Parson type and are currently scouring the internet for ads and breeders. Not much luck so far because I'm looking for one that has as little white as possible, or even black and tan colour. I've spoken to a few people, but have been just too late several times already :( However we are going to look at some puppies tomorrow and I'm REALLY excited :D

In the meantime if anyone knows of anyone with a litter of JRT puppies that meet the above in the area between mid Herts, up the A1 through Bedford to Peterborough ish, I'd love to know.

    Many thanks,

    Debs

Those are lovely puppies I don't think I've ever seen JRT's in that colour before.

Yes they are one of the ones I'm going to see :)

I think I've looked on every website there is:
    • pets4homes
    • epupz
    • K9puppies
    • sun local (this is really good as it links to a lot of the others)
    • mobiya
    • preloved
I was wondering if anyone knew anyone personally?

Thanks for the link though :)

Oh and I meant to say, I've seen prices from £150 up to £500 for Jack Russells in the last few days, so I'm thinking £275 is about average.

  9. I must be out of date on pricing then! I would have expected £120 tops!
    regards

The KC recognises the Parson Russell Terrier which is essentially the show cousin of the JRT I have no idea why it doesn't recognise the JRT but they're definately a breed.

We used to have a black and tan and a fully tan one down my village, called riley and same, lovely little chappies :D
I love JRT's, but prefer the parsons for some reason! Anyhoo they look adorable! Good luck!
Don't worry DT you aren't the only one, i thought terriers cost £100 max

Please go and re-home a dog from a rescue centre instead..
There are sooooooooooo many unwanted doggies in there :crying:
Please think about getting one from there instead..
Rescue dogs are soo loving.. They will be a friend for life
Take a look on the dogs trust website, you can view most of the dogs online and find your nearest centre..

    Will you consider it????

I have considered it - long and hard. Where we live is a long way from any shelters and you have to keep going back to see what they've got - the dogs are not all on the websites (I've looked until my fingers are sore!!) and they won't help by letting you know if one comes in as they are all too busy. And I want a small JRT which is rare in rescues. Also, it takes a long time, I really wanted to get a dog weeks ago when my daughter finished school for the summer so we could all have a long time to bond/train. But it hasn't worked out that way and OH thinks we should get a puppy. So that's what I'm looking at, at the moment.
Sorry - but I really admire people who do take rescues - maybe one day - if I get a bigger house and garden.

As much as I agree that rescue dogs need homes; rescue dogs also need special homes that suit them.

You also have to remember that even if this family choose to have a rescue dog; puppies are still being born that need homes.

As far as I know, jrt's aren't kc for the same reason as lurchers- there is no breed standard, which if you notice, all kc registered breeds have. (height build etc)
There are far too many differences for jrt you can have it would be impossible to get them kc reg :)

JRT's aren't KC reg because Jack Russell never wanted them to be in a closed registry. The parson one was just a way round that.
