Wrong dog put to sleep.

Discussion in 'Dog Chat' started by RoseForTheDead, Jun 24, 2010.

  1. My friends little dog is in vets at the minute at he's been attacked by a Staffy. Someone reported a dog - a white Staff - the dog got put down... turns out, it's the wrong dog... :frown: how wrong is that? An innocent dog has been killed, and the actual dog that attacked is still running around.

Thankfully my friends dog is going to be ok I think.

I wish people would actually get their facts right before going and accusing.

For what reason was the dog PTS?

Dog on dog attacks are not against the law.

If someone told the owner about the attack perhaps it was his/her decision to have the dog pts, the owner of the staffie that killed my Ailsa offered to have the dog destroyed but I said no as long as steps were taken to insure that it could never happen again.

surely the owner was responsible enough to know where her dog was and if he did it :(

I was thinking the same. Would she not know, unless she lets her dog wonder around.

But the wrong dog was PTS.

I could understand if it were the owner of the actual animal responsible who made the decision.

Surely there cant be that many white SBT's running around with no owner in sight in one area.

From what little we know, I think it must have been the owner's decision.
The dog attacked is at the vets at the moment, so it must have be a very recent attack - literally within the last hour or so. The authorities wouldn't have acted that quickly, and as has been said, dog on dog aggression isn't an offence.

We've got quite a few here and they can be out at the same time, not so much with no owner in sight as it's a smallish park with no where for dogs to go out of sight.

  16. It happened yesterday I believe.

Just so sad about the dog being killed for no reason at all :( alot of owners around here don't care where their dog is, you often see dogs roaming unfortunately.

Seems a bit confusing to me

A dog on dog attack that happened 24 hours or less ago

How was the wrong dog PTS...was the dog roaming and picked up? if so who by?

Surely if this happened the dog would not be put to sleep straight away.

Who gave permission for the poor dog to be PTS?

If it was the wrong dog then surely the owners of this dog would not have just straight away taken it for the lethal injection:confused:

How did the owners of the wrong dog know about this attack if they were not with it (as obviously they wern't)

Was the dog that attacked on its own?

How do you know it was the wrong dog?

    This seems so unreal:confused::confused::confused:

Hope your friends dog get well soon. xx

Assuming that this other staffie was wandering around unattended then who is to say it wasnt the dog that attacked. Sounds a bit odd to me. The owner is not going to put it down if it was at home and if it was not at home but out on its own then it could be the culprit.
It might not be an offence but it is the responsible thing to do to have the dog put down if it is not going to be kept under control.

I'll find out more as soon as I can, as I'm as confused as everyone here!
