My son got the date of his operation to fix his broken nose...First specialist advised not to do it..as he is only 10...but he cannot breath properly - one nostril is blocked...second specialist said..it must be done and may be done now..but make sure ! who does it...there is a risk his nose will stop growing...:(

Pediatrician said - do it! Our GP said..do not..it will most likely get damaged before it heals and all for nothing..wait!

Has anyone had this operation? And what do you think?..

Just do not know what to do..and he has lots of sports, and will miss lots of training and competitions as well...which worries him ! (not the op...)

I only know one person who suffered a broken nose when younger and never got it sorted, and they still suffer with it now. Hope that helps!!!

Is he suffering? Can not having done cause long term problems? I can't breathe out of one nostril although it's a pain if I've got a cold my nose has grown ok

I was meant to have it broken, the bridge chizled down (as it's apparently to large for my face and causes pressure etc) and then re a lined but I was pregnant when the appointment came through so never bothered to re book it

The only other thing is I get tension headaches

My son wants to win more medals on sport day!..so i know what he will say!
..but then he gets dragging colds, headaches, sinuses get blocked..etc...
willsee the guy who does the op and grillhim to the bone..but I was told to go to UK and not here...!..:eek::eek:...but they do not give me much choice..problem is - they may not have a child expert! ..we get who comes and does whater regardless of his area of expertise...which is scary...
OH leaves the decision to me...

I fell off my brothers bike aged 14 or 15 and needed my arm in plaster. They suspected my nose was broken but decided to leave that as they were more concerned about the arm.
It says in my recent medical notes "septum is deviated to the right".
I don't know if the nose has contributed to the sinus problems but recent MRI scans showed many sinus problems.

It's always hard when you have two opposing opinions, however, there is no shame in asking for a third opinion, preferably with a consultant in ENT.

I believe there is a specialist unit in Gibralter.

    Good luck. :001_smile:

i have preassessment appin ENT I believe..the consultant is the doctor who will operate, hope he will be honest with us...
I feel tempted to look at everything on the net, but it may make it even more difficult..
