Hello everyone, I'm new on this site. I have a nervous and agitated jack Russell x, this has only just started and its only in the mornings at home. 'Jack' has started following me constantly round the flat, with his tail tucked right under, looking extremely nervous and looking all around him. He has never been like this before! He sleeps with me in my bed at night, last night he woke me as he was just sitting on the bed (normally under the duvet with me!), shaking violently !! I just can't work this new behaviour out has anyone got any ideas as to what could be the problem?

Hi Flower6, think of somethings that you have changed in 'Jack's life recently. A new addition to the family, different daily routine, different dog food, different toy, etc. Also think of the amount and way you have been giving 'Jack' attention. Have you been giving him more or less? Have you been doing something differently?

He might be feeling a little anxious because of any change. He might also feel like you are spending more time with someone or something else. For example, if you have a new love interest 'Jack' might feel like you are spending more time with him/her and not enough time with 'Jack'.

So just think about some changes you have been making within the past few months or however long the behavior has been occurring and see if you can give him a little more lovin'. If it continues see a vet or dog bx specialist, 'Jack' might just be ill too ;.;:(

    Welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear about Jack. Noises out in the road frightening him maybe? Lorries?
Dogs can easily get spooked. Fireworks for example. Back-firing exhausts. All manner of things.
A reassuring cuddle should help calm him. If it goes on, Bach Rescue Remedy might be worth a try or you can get dog (natural/herbal) nervines.

Yes, that might be the colpret! See if he is nervous to approach it. You can feed him treats near the tree which will help him understand the tree is not going to harm him! Eventually if you get him close to the tree let him touch it with his nose then immediately give him a treat after. That also reinforces the message that the tree will not harm him.

Yeah, my dogs freak out when they hear gunshots. I never understood though because they have always had the sound around them. Perhaps my apprehensiveness about guns rubs off on them too just a little:rolleyes:::cryin::hand:

Don't be too alarmed by the shaking. It is a common JR trait to varying degrees.
I hope he settles down soon for you :)

Eeeew - got one exactly the same! I got one of those laptop stands (bit like a tall coffee table) so didnt have to put the laptop on my knee. One of my dog was terrified of it, acting all nervous. And if I moved it forward to stand up, she bolted.

Dogs can be incredibly sensitive creatures. Lots of cuddles and reassurance.
