    Hilarious!! :D

While I always think it's pretty cool to see a different way of figuring maths I was able to get the correct answer using the western method of multiplying in about 1/10th of the time. I have my paper in front of me and honestly he/she was still drawing lines when I'd gotten the answer.

And you were still writing it while I had the answer on my calculator :D

You have to remember though that he/she is going slow so people can see/follow what they are doing. Would be interesting to compare each way at normal speed.

I was trying to be fair. :p And you're right of course too, I'm sure if the person was going fast he/she might have beat me! :D

OT, but I think people, kids especially, rely on calculators too much. My daughter will be 14 tomorrow and there are kids in her grade who don't know their timestables. I wouldn't let my daughter have one at school till last year and she broke it this year and didn't tell me (I will replace it), but she still gets top scores in maths and often finishes tests faster than the kids who are using them. It's the same with our 9yr old son who had trouble with his maths last year and we still drill him on multiplication and division.
