I saw an unusual "butterfly" up the forest during the week, but didn't have time to stop because I was walking dogs. Went back today for a couple of hours in the middle of the day.
There were literally 100s of Brimstones, almost as many Commas, Peacocks, Bumble bees by the dozen and millions of wood ants building up their nests
    Then there were these :)

It was a moth not a butterfly :)

mmmm, thats got me going going Rona [the flutterby].First thought was that it was just a Painted Lady, but immediately realised something wasnt right, its the underwings [,nearest ive got so far to identifying is, possibly a Gatekeeper, but even that is bit iffy.Cant estimate size by photo either.I know some species have variations,so need to delve deeper . Havnt seen toads here yet, you are ahead of the game wherever you are located .;)

Well, you found what it was! I get those on my butterfly transect.

And good to get that photo of them they're not so easy to approach.
