Just curious. I have a boy and a girl pug. They live the same way and are kept clean and bathed.

The boy smells doggy, the girl doesnt.

Are boys more smelly than girls or is it down to the individual. We call our little man "stinky" and he always is! :)

I think boys pee smells a lot until they are neutered. My girls hardly smell (apart from when Candy rolls in poo :p)

I believe the smell disappears or tones down after they've been neutered (pee smell that is)

Entire male dogs are certainly smellier than bitches. It's more than just stronger smelling urine. It seems to come from the skin as well. Trust me on this one. I've got a really sensitive sense of smell.

Dogs also seem to smell stronger as they age. This is true of both sexes.

Sick dogs also have a distinctive smell. Back in the olden days when Distemper was rife anyone who worked with dogs could pick that Distemper smell with their eyes closed.

If the smell is not coming from illness or infection it may simply be hormonal. Three to six months after desexing a male dog should smell just as nice as his female companion.
