    Hi peeps.

Just wondering where you all got your rescue dogs from?

Dogs Trust, RSPCA, Battersea Dogs Home, Scottish SPCA or a smaller rescue organisation?

Both of my old dogs came from NCDL Kennilworth. They were supposed to be 2yrs and 18mths when we got them and they lived to be 12yrs and 13yrs respectively. Not bad for a couple of mongrels with very little back story but lots of problems.

The RSPCA & the council pound :)

i'd definately take on a poundie over an RSPCA/Dog's Trust animal. The big animal rescues tend to keep their animals until they are rehomed, no matter how long, but pound dogs are only given 7 days :(

It would probably depend on the individual place, but ours didn't. They don't have the time, kennel space or staff to keep dogs in for long enough, they just want the dogs out ASAP, which isn't ideal but at least it stops them from being PTS.

Again, it probably depends on the council - some might rehome, some don't. You'd have to ring them and ask :) our council takes them to a private boarding kennels who have a block for rescues and are happy to rehome dogs :)

As far as i know many pound dogs are moved onto rescues to avoid PTS, so by adopting from a rescue you are freeing up a space for a poundie to come in. I'd be concerned about what assessments would of been done on a pound dog so its probably not right for everyone.

My dogs came from the Retired Greyhound Trust

I found our Stella on petfinder.com, which I think is only a US thing. she was actually being fostered through a local rescue, that posted her photo on petfinder.

Jack came from a cardboard box left dumped on the street,he was left there with his brother aged about 6 wks old,my sister found them,we have both kept one of them,Rusty our other dog was from a "person" my husband met through work,an unwanted pup from a litter bred to work,i dare not think where he would have ended up had hubby not come home with Rusty at 7 wks old,

Mine came from the Wainwright shelter near Kendal. They describe the dogs in the local paper, then you make an appointment to meet the dog you're interested in - it saves a lot of stress for the dogs. Apart from poor health at first, my Zig has been an easy and perfect first dog. She was 18 months when I got her, she's 6 now.

Our pound doesn't move them onto rescue and the rescue I work for doesn't take pound dogs on, so it doesn't work like that for my local rescues, unfortunately :( it'd be lovely if they did work a bit like that though.

All 5 of mine have come from small rescues. 3 of them from Warrington, 1 from Macclesfield and the recent one from my friends rescue in Wales (who I foster for). :D To be honest even with my history of rescues I doubt the bigger rescues would rehome to me because on paper I'm not a suitable owner according to their blanket rules. Smaller rescues are generally more understanding and tolerant of people's need to work etc. Mind you round here I'm the only person who home checks so I'd pass myself anyway!!:D
