Um as far as i know there isnt a product on the market that last 8-12 wks for fleas and ticks?
Advantix treats for fleas and ticks - dont think stronghold does
But all of these products -to be effective should be applied every 4-6weeks.:)

I have been using Advantix on my westie since last October and so far she has not had any ticks this summer. You have to apply it every 4 weeks from March to September. I used to use Frontline but Molly had a tick on her foot which resulted in a lump and she had to have an op to remove the lump.

Be careful with advocate it doesnt treat tapeworms- many people get fooled with this and think they are covered - tapeworms can also be transmitted from having fleas.
It is good though as treats/prevents for other types of mites as well as preventing lungworm which is a big subject at the mo!

I buy the Advantix from my vet but you can get a prescription and order it online at Petmeds.

My vet advises against using Advantix - she said she would never put those chemicals on her dog.

Frontline spray is supposed to last 3 months (as opposed to the spot on), but the spot on has to be used every month for ticks and every two for fleas. I don't actually bother with cover for ticks as I don't find it works that well, and it is easier just to check regularly and remove them. I now use Advantage as I live in an area where there have been cases of lungworm.

I was recommended Advantix by a vet!
There is a lot of Lyme disease round here and with small deer ticks it's too easy to miss one. I don't like using the chemicals but it's weighing one risk against another. One thing I find rather worrying is that my 11 kilo dog is right at the bottom of the dose category (10 to 25 kilos), so is getting a comparatively much higher dose than a 24 kilo dog would.

Thanks for that. When i spoke to our vet about spot on and other bits, he told me that most dont work and to try "good old shampoo"

I know most dont give you that long enough cover, But i was looking for something where your not paying £20 for a month protection if you understand what i mean.

My shi-tzu is foreve getting flea's not matter what we try, so im thinking of having her shaved to the skin lol

I have tried nearly everything, Tablets, shampoo, spot on, flea collars, spray and nothing seems to be helping her???
