I'm planning on getting 3 or 4 ex bat chickens in the new year. The plan is a wooden coop with run but access to the rest of the garden whenever possible.

    My 2 questions..

What do people find best to use onbthe floor of the coop? Woodshavings? Cardboard based bedding? Something else?

The main run won't be moveable and I understand chickens will destroy grass in no time... should I just accept the inevitable and get rid of the grass first? If so do people prefer woodchips, straw or something else over the dirt? Given how much it rains in the UK is it worth covering the run to stop it getting too muddy and boggy?

I see you live in the UK, I would suggest digging in 3" and putting sand or small rocks so it can drain through and not leave their coop wet and muddy :) Hope this helped :)
