I always wonder who funds these ridiculous studies at universities - all I can say is I'm grateful it's an American Univeristy and we didn't waste our money.

Not sure anilmals get insulted
And I thought pets - oops sorry, Companion Animals' - were still regarded by law as property.

 crazy, talk about a way of removing the animal from the animal and you wonder some people can't cope with their animals, spend far too much time humanizing them. I love Maya with all my heart she's my best friend and she's like family to me but she's not a human, she's not a replacement child and I know she's defiantly still a pet dog.

We have nicknames for our two. Jess is lovingly known as 'Tart' and Blue as 'Gonk'. They never seem insulted and will even answer to their nicknames when their real names get ignored.

Maybe these boffins conducting 'research' would like to look at the ethics of animal testing - how animals used to test cosmetics feel  or how dogs feel when shock collars are used.

Maybe put their brain power into something that does actually supresss, insult and are unethical.

    Total load of poppycock!!

We'll have to stop using the abbreviations such as OH when talking about our partners and start using CP :D

Well I am off to take my pets out for a walk. What I call them is regardless, as I know I how much respect I have for them... I could call them what I like and they'd still be two of the most pampered, most loved and most important thing in the world to me

A rose by any other name and all that jazz  I'd say its our actions we should be concerned about! Call them selves academics

*steps down off high horse*

    :D

Well a few months back I met this couple with this lovely lively puppy who they had called " Satan":eek:

So surely that is worse than being called a pet.

We all name our "pets" anyway and only use that term collectively or if asking questions such as " do you have any pets?"- I mean how many of you address yours as a pet?

You don't say this is my pet do you? you say this is my dog Fido .

I'm going to put myself out there and say I can see where they are coming from with certain terms causing prejudgment and do agree with it to a certain extent. I try to avoid calling myself an 'owner' but when you have 'mothers' calling their children 'the C word', it can seem a little trivial...

My friend used to have the most bad tempered snake I've ever met & she really suited the name Satan:eek:
and where will it end- what are we going to call our children
maybe 'small persons closely biologically related to me'

So how is the word Pet offensive as it can also mean for e.g stroke affectionately.

Maybe these animal physics who say they tune in and talk to them could ask them if they find the word Pet is offensive? :D

Yes can see it may be a name for the real naughty ones ;)

But a snake is one thing but calling out "Satan" in the park is another:lol::lol:
