Are there any sayings, mantras, prayers or anything else that you tell yourself when you are having a difficult time? Does it help you?

It helps me to remember 'this too shall pass' if there's a sticky situation going on, or I'm feeling really low.

Another one, not really a saying, but I get a lot of anxiety before doing something new or doing chores or going to a club or social event. I try to remind myself that it is' never as bad as I think it is going to be, and it will be over sooner than I think it will be'. Usually I'm pleasantly surprised by the end, but have to remind myself before I do things otherwise I'd probably never do anything!

If I'm really scared, I remind myself 'whatever happens, I will still be me'.

    What helps you?

There are two that I have found very useful, though both say essentially the same thing I suppose.

"Ask yourself the question: Will this matter a year from now?" and..

"100 years from now? All new people."

The first one iirc is from the classic 'Don't sweat the small stuff' which was a great read in its day and probably still is.

I can't talk myself into feeling better or to stop worrying, but if I immerse myself in nature it all dissolves away :)

Like you, 'This too shall pass' is something I've started saying a lot.

One I've used a long time is 'You will be OK'.

Similar to your "this too shall pass" I often tell myself "nothing lasts for ever" and of course no matter what happens the dogs will always love me :)

From another forum . it was something like this -

you're coming through something rather than going through it .

ETA asking God or the Universe or who ever you believe in to give you the strength to get through something .

Mine aren’t really very inspirational. If I’m finding something difficult I tell myself not to be a twit (well, I use another word but you get the idea) or I say to myself “C’mon, Kimmi, you can do this”
There’s a quote I quite like from Les Mis that goes “Even after the darkest night, the sun will rise” which is quite nice.

This reminds me of a saying from the Harry Potter films, it's said by Dumbledore at the start of year 3 (the prisoner of azkaban), can't remember the saying word for word, but it's something like:
"Happiness can be found, in even the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light'

I really like that saying and was thinking of making a sign with that saying to put in my sitting room. Haven't done that yet though as no idea where to start.

My youngest daughter has a linocut print she made herself that hangs in her room.

It's a line from a song in Steven Universe (kids cartoon thing) & I refer to it when my demons are rearing their ugly heads:

'I am made of love & it is stronger than you'.

I've recently adopted "there is life after [insert stressful event]" which seems to be really helping me. I am a massive worrier. I often joke that if I stop worrying about one thing then I have to find something else to worry about - sadly it seems to be true.

I have been feeling like I'm right at the bottom of a huge pit of despair for the past few months. Little miss Lola is always the one to make it a little better. If I'm crying she'll climb into my lap and put her head over my shoulder. If I'm just very down she starts moaning at me, beating me with her toys or jumping up and down. She the best tonic in the world.

Chuck it in the 'uck it bucket and move on.
If you can't sleep for over thinking things just give it to God.

    And at
    The end of the day
    remember the days
when we were close to the edge
And we'll wonder how we made it through the night
    The end of the day
    remember the way
We stayed so close to till the end
We'll remember it was me and you.
