    Hello all,
We have just adopted our first fur baby from a stray shelter!
Unfortunately when she was found she was poorly and underweight!
She is slowly on the mend and we are trying our best to help her gain weight!

She is a 4 year old boxer cross, and would like any recommendations on good food that will help her to gain the weight that she needs!
    Can anyone help??

Feed little and often is the best way for dogs to gain weight

So as a general rule many people feed healthy adult dogs twice a day.

For underweight dogs, feed 4 times a day so the food doesn't overload the system and you can add a little bit more than recommended or the amount for the expected weight without any repercussions.

    Thankyou for your help!
We are currently feeding her three time a day! Will try spreading her recommended amount over four instead!
Would you recommend a certain brand?

Not particularly a brand as food is emotive and food which suits one dog might not suit another.

As long as poo is ok,not loose or soft. Your dog doesn't smell, loose condition and you are happy with the price and the dog food it self then that's what matters really.

The best food for your dog is, like lullabydream says, the one that suits her so if it's not broken, don't fix it.
But if you want to do some research, have a look at www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk

It is an independent dog food comparison website which scores all types of foods (dry, raw, wet) on a scale of 0 to 5. You can set filters for your dog's weight, age etc and choose to view only the foods scoring, say, 4 and above. Then you can show them listed according to daily feeding cost so you can see what gives you best value for money.

We are currently trying to find the right food for her just didn’t want to swap and change too much because she’s underweight! I asked because I didn’t know wether certain types are good for gaining weight! As it’s my first dog I don’t really have much understanding so was just looking for a little support etc. Thanks for your help

As JoanneF said above, take a look at All About Dog Food, there's many brands which are are really good. Of course not all food will suit your dog but in terms of ingredients you want the best ones available but of course budget plays a part in it. I'd recommend Simpsons Premium 80/20, Carnilove Into The Wild, Acana, Orijen, Lilys Kitchen and Forthglade, there's many good kibbles around but many they are rubbish, packed with fillers and artificial junk! Good Luck
