I am getting very boring. I used to do obedience and agility years ago and loved it but live in the wrong place to compete now so dont train my dogs very well! I love walking them and they come out in the car with us a lot.

Non dog stuff. At the holiday cottage I swim a lot and I always read a lot. Go out with friends, play cards, generally like being social but do not do so much at home. I used to be pretty full on with horses so there was not much time for anything else (and cattle) but now we are retired I need to find a new hobby. Trouble is I only enjoy outdoor and animal related activities.

Collecting and cleaning skulls doesnt appeal to me as a hobby but it doesnt sound boring at all!

Very interesting in fact! I hadnt read this thread properly at all and it has made me laugh how you mention these hobbies and are then asked what book you are reading!

Like the skulls thing is just totally ordinary!

I would love to hear more about your skull hobby:)

Hahaha, maybe for us weirdos it is!!

I've always been obsessed with animals & always found biology interesting but didn't pursue a career in this area unfortunately (big regret). But it was only when I moved to Norfolk, in the countryside that I had so much wildlife on my doorstep & I was fascinated with them again I am rubbish at photography & clumsy (which isn't good for expensive gear!) but it was when I started picking up roadkill for my dogs (Deer & pheasants mainly as they are raw fed … & the roadkill was fresh!) that I started to keep the skulls & look more at the form when I was chopping them up.

I then met a woman who is a taxidermy artist when I went to spectate at a Working Trials event & she invited me to her home which was the most amazing place. It was filled with her art & her collections of bones (race horse, gorilla, giraffe, a bear, tiger, fish … all sorts) that I realised I could do something with the animals I found (if they weren't any good for the dogs). So I started the messy process of macerating bones, cleaning them up & working towards rebuilding skeleton, etc. I loved it & need to start doing some more again but unfortunately I've not done anything for ages as I've been so busy with training my dogs & keeping on top of household jobs.

It is quite a popular hobby with a lot of people & there are Facebook groups dedicated to it. Some people's work is stunning (not mine!) & some people sell their work. Some people make art works, some carve skulls & bones, some paint them.... there really is such creativity with some people & they really are very talented. I would like to go on a taxidermy course soon but again It's time & money but it's something to save for.

Thanks for explaining a bit about this unusual and interesting hobby! I can definitely see how that could be enjoyable, though after my bone-carrying excursion yesterday, i dont think it would be for me!

I only dabble myself (although a friend did once persuade me to decapitate a random bird I found on the beach and keep the head in my freezer for a few months), but I have LOTS of vulture friends.

I tend to prefer slightly less gross activities haha. Used to do a lot with horses and the rat fancy (which can admittedly sometimes be almost as gross) and photography. Nowadays my big thing is bell ringing, plus reading, jigsaw puzzles etc. Plus my non-dog pets (cat, guinea pigs, rats, hamsters, mice).

With Cadvan my biggest love so far is bikejor, but we also do parkour, canicross, scentwork (just found a new place that's more accessible nearer me for that) and stuff. I would love to do a few more other bits with him, but anything with regular classes will have to wait until I have better transport access. Also just generally exploring the countryside - although that's much more fun with other local dogfriends, and is my favourite sort of human socialising too :D

    I love jigsaw puzzles!
And also games in general. We had one of those murder mystery party nights at ours a few years back. Was a lot of work as i had to cook everything french themed and everyone came dressed in character. It was a really good fun night!

Every christmas we have a party games night, always finishing with blockbusters (darts based on the tv prog)

We usually have a spooky night to with Betrayal at House on the Hill which is a great game.

Otherwise Scrabble is my favourite. Hate monopoly but love scrabble. We have a cupboard full of really exciting bored games, always a great laugh:)

I think that's more likely a spelling error! Or i was just being absent minded. It's a proper oxymoron isn't it lol!
