We have a 7 year old Westie who has been on and off of steroids and antibiotics for 6 years. These only help temporarily with the itching, scratching, and bald spots. I just ordered Dermaction shampoo bar and skin conditioning cream. Has anyone tried these products and had success? Thanks!

    No experience with either product.

Any knowledge of what is causing the allergies? I know a lot of people find it's diet related. If you haven't considered it I would look at removing grain from food and even go as far as researching raw feeding. It's not guaranteed to help but has helped a lot of people whose dogs have allergies. Emma used to have an allergy to grass but hasn't suffered at all since switching to raw. Other people have success simply swithing to a fish based kibble with no grain.

Dermacton has had some really amazing results. There are several on her that have used it and one is a westie too and if I remember correctly it worked when nothing else had. I think it might be Six Stars dog, hopefully she will pick up the thread and advise you more.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Dermacton saved our Westies life.

He was an itchy but manageable pup - but by the time he was two years old he was a bloodied, scabby, weepy mess - he itched 24/7, his skin was black and cracked, he would cry out in pain and could never settle.

You name it we tried it - we spent thousands on tests, specialists, all sorts of different medications and washes/creams, we did food trials, he was on and off steroids but nothing worked. The appointment was booked to have him put to sleep because he had no quality of life whatsoever.

Stumbled across Dermacton products in a dog mag, at £15 for the cream and spray, we thought it was worth a try, and ordered some - fully expecting it not to work.

After the first application the redness and sores calmed down and began drying up and the itching stopped instantly. A week of thrice daily applications and the scabs and sores had almost gone - and within a couple of weeks it was as if he never had a problem - his fur grew back, his skin returned to a normal colour - and it's remained that way since.

He's 9 years old now and has never had a problem since.

He eats a raw diet, we're careful with what treats we feed him, and what grooming product we use with him, and I ensure his diet is rich in omega oils - but he is perfect now.

I wish I had taken 'before' pics of him - he had very little hair on his legs, groin, belly and face - and what hair he did have on his body was straw like, thin and patchy, his skin was black with big, weeping, crusty, oozing, bloodied sores, and it was extremely dry and flaky :( - but this is him now, taken a week before his 9th birthday a couple of weeks ago - he's got a thick, wonderful coat, no hair loss or staining and perfect pink healthy and supple skin.

Deary me, I get all emotional thinking about a damned stinky dog cream (and it does stink!) but like I say, it saved our boys life.

I don't want to get your hopes up, but Dermacton worked for our lad when NOTHING else did, and I can only hope you have the same success with your fella.

Sending big hugs to you and your boy x
