    Hi all

this is my last hope so please help me if you can.

My good lady has fallen for a harrier dog / pup and it seems that these are the hardest dogs to get hold of and hence I am now looking for help from anyone who can even point me in the right direction.

    cheers

    Dave

Have you tried breeders on line google and have a look there may be breeders on there but you may have to travel as there not a common breed.

beautiful dogs, i have a beagle, obviously a very similar dog. i have to say i have never come across any harrier breeders, and having had a quick look on the internet there, they seem to be very rare and most of the sites i came across were american.

good luck in your search though!

    How about a similar breed?

The Hamiltonstovare is a similar dog, and there are a few breeders in the UK :)

Give the knnel club a call, i'm sure they could put you in touch with some breeders or even try the harrier's breed club.

    Hi

First of all thanks for your reply's and it looks like the Harrier is a no go unless I become a lord and start having a desire to get into the hunting sect which is clearly a big no.

So what we really want is a harrier that is like a giant beagle but has less hereditary health problems or a medium to large dog that is:

intelligent i.e. at ;least 7 out of 10 for brains in the dog world
likes water ( we have a small shetland 17 foot boat that we spend most weekends on)
likes other dogs ( 3 others in the family)
    Like water
    short/ meduim coat
    Get on with other dogs
medium to large ( lab size or slightly bigger would be perfect)
    Not drool
    Need moderate to high exercise
    loyal

    Thanks for your help

    Dave

ok nothing like a harrier but a golden retriever ticks ALL those boxes

Or a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, they have fairly close links to hounds.
Not the easiest of dogs and not a lot of them about but well worth a look

Spanish Water Dogs sound ideal for you, just the coat type which I'm not sure your willing to make a compromise on?

Spanish water dogs are lovely. they look a bit like poodles to me. I asked our rueben about the harrier and it aint got another name but they are like rocking horse poo he says. but there is someone who breeds em in county durham, why do you want a harrier and mot a beagle, the beagles are best in pairsz
