    I can't believe I'm writing this post.

Eric has joined his brother Ernie at the bridge.

Whilst we were on holiday, my mother and father found Eric looking very unwell on one of their visits. They took him to the bet who said he was extremely anaemic, and couldn't understand why for such a young cat.

They kept him in, and overnight he declined rapidly with all of his major organs starting to shut down. They arranged an ambulance to transfer him to an ICU unit, but before it arrived, the vet realised he wouldn't survive the journey.

So we've come home to an empty house and utter devastation.

We can't now take Jude as we'd hoped, because we are too upset, and also too scared that we might be consigning another poor kitty to an early grave. Clearly we are. It fit to look after these precious little souls.

I don't thinking can face returning to these forums again for a while, so I'll say thanksYou. Ow for all the good wishes that I'm sure will follow.

How awful for you to return from holiday to such tragic news :(:( My heart goes out to you but please, please do not ever consider that you were not fit to be the slaves of your precious Eric and Ernie :(
I can understand your reluctance to take Jude now but do not rule out letting another cat into your hearts at some time in the future.
RIP beloved Eric, chase butterflies with your brother over the Rainbow Bridge.

How terribly sad,I am so very sorry to read this. There really are no words I can say that will help to ease the pain you must be feeling.
I understand how you feel about little Jude, but maybe take a little time to adjust to what has happened.
None of this is your fault nor are you unfit to care for Jude. You must do what you feel is right but dont make any desicions that you may regret later.

Run free at the bridge Eric join Ernie and have fun chasing butterflies in the sunshine .

    Oh no!! :(

That is awful, so sorry to hear about Eric :( :(

It couldn't have been your fault that Eric was ill, you weren't to know, he may have been born with a defect. He is now reunited with his brother again, enjoying happy healthy times in spirit.

I know how you must feel though - I lost a 1-year-old cat to the road earlier this year, then last week my other 1-year-old needed an emergency operation on his spine, which revealed he had been born with one deformed vertebrae and a dermoid cyst!!! It was causing inflammation and infection which could've spread and been fatal if not removed. Thankfully he has recovered now, but it is awful when you find out there is something wrong with such a young cat.

Prior to this though, we had 3 indoor/outdoor cats who hardly ever needed the vet and all lived into their teens. It's nothing you have done.

So please don't blame yourself - despite the grief, there must be another cat out there who could benefit from your loving care. Sometimes I think that one advantage of adopting an older cat is that you would know it's healthy and hardy and streetwise before you take it home! I am sure you will feel ready again one day to bring another cat into your home and family. Big hugs xxx

    so sorry to hear that.

take all the time that you need to grieve, but certainly don't feel that you're in any way unfit to look after your cats, or that it's your fault. sadly, just like humans, some are just not destined to stay here for long.

    take care of yourselves

What a terrible sad post, I feel your grief.
But please do not let this be the end of your love affair with cats, none of what has happened is your fault and could have happened to any of us at any time.
    RIP Eric and Ernie

This is so unutterably sad that I don't know what to say. Please don't think it was your fault. Perhaps Eric was born with a defect, as others have said, and his broken heart just made it manifest itself sooner. There's nothing you could have done, and as he and his brother were so very close and strongly bonded, now he has gone to be with him at the bridge. Happily together again, they will watch over you both and, when the time is right, they will send you someone to love again. You'll know when that time arrives--you'll see your boys again in the face of another little one, and your heart will tell you it's right.

For now, there's nothing any of us can say to make it better, but it's good to just get the grief out and let it go. Be there for each other and be glad that Eric is with his Ernie once again.

RIP little paws. Run free together at the bridge

This is really sad :( my thoughts are with you at this time. I can't imagine how upset you must be because I haven't had to go through such an event yet.

All my wishes are with you at this sad time. Run free little ones and wait for your mummy and daddy at rainbow road.
