    Hi Emma

    Thank you for being so kind, he hasn't coughed today and we are still waiting for the vet to ring back with blood results - they are consulting until 6 so it can be quite late or may even be tomorrow. He is absolutely fine at the moment, laying there like Lord Muck after demolishing some yummy chicken in broth. Fingers crossed I get some news later but will let you know x

    Amy the vet has just phoned me:

    Eosinophils normal
    Pancreas normal
    kidneys normal
    but

    We have a little blip in his liver results, bilirubin is at 26 when it should be (0-15).

    Bit of background, last May he had an infection in his liver (symptoms were nausea, went off his food completely, lethargic) At that time, all his liver enzymes were unhappy, but responded almost immediately to antibiotics after advice from Newmarket Animal Hospital.

    The plan is to take him in on Friday and he will have a Bile Acid Stimulation Test, so I have to fast him which will be no mean feat, bloods taken on empty stomach and then again once he's eaten, so they need him all day.

    So......no further forward regarding the cough, and I've discovered there's something up in another way, although no symptoms at the moment.

    Feeling worried again now :Sorry

    Oh no Ali so sorry to read Milo is under the weather, bless him. I know very little about coughing in cats or liver problems so just wanted to top up the vibes for Milo and sending you all a big hug from Dex, Sam and I xx

    Gosh so sorry to hear about Milo's cough Ali - hopefully it really isn't anything to worry about.
    Could it have been a hairball?

    Well done for opting for full bloods though. Could the vet put him on ABs now rather than wait? I am very ignorant and have no idea what can cause a liver infection?

    Hoping whatever it is can be easily treated and sending big hugs xx

    @huckybuck thank you

    The cough feels like the least of our worries now :( but yes you're right, this is exactly why I wanted to do the blood tests, I just wasn't expecting to find anything other than what I took him in for. x

    Stay positive hun. You managed to treat him and he recovered last time - there is no reason why he won't this. xx

    I'm sure you're right Clare, it might even be the same as last year but we caught it early before symptoms. It's not been a very good day and my imagination is not doing me any favours x

    I'm sorry to hear you've got more worries @Ali71. Rodney had the bile acid test earlier this year as he has liver problems & he was only there for about 3 hours so hopefully he won't have to stay all day.

    Easy to say I know but try not to worry, he sounds well in himself so that's positive x

    @Matrod I'm sorry I didn't know Rodney had liver problems too :( We are in first thing Friday so hopefully I can pick him up when I finish work. The vet said asked if Milo would have a problem eating away from home, that bit made me laugh :)

    Thank you xx

    He's had liver problems for a good while now, what's one more health problem in OAP household! I hope Milo enjoys his fatty meal, he might want to go more often! :) xx

    It's human nature to start thinking the worst ( I can take that skill up to a whole new level) but it's most likely something that is treatable or will resolve it's self. How did they diagnose his liver problems last year, was it the bile test? I agree with @huckybuck If Friday seems too long to wait why not give your vet a ring first thing in the morning and ask if antibiotics now as a precaution could be considered as an option.

    @Citruspips
    Thanks for the wise words, last year he was really nauseous and off his food, the complaint was identified by all raised liver enzymes in his bloods. When I spoke to the vet for the results, their first thought was a liver scan/biopsy at the referral centre, but when they spoke to the centre the specialist said that with Milo's results he would probably be ok with antibiotics, which he was.

    I will ring the vets in the morning and see if I can speak to Amy to ask about AB's now. They might say it will hinder the bile test, we can but ask. x

    Sorry to read that the bloods have shown up a possible problem, try not to worry until there is something to worry about.
    Stupid to say it really as I would be just the same . xx
